Some quotes for Catholics to ponder...

"Let them (those separate from the Catholic Church) not think that the way of life or salvation exists for them, if they have refused to obey the bishops and priests...For they cannot live outside, since there is only one house of God, and there can be no salvation for anyone except in the Church." St. Cyprian: "Letters 61:4".

"Just as no man can enter any place without the help of him who has the keys, so no one is admitted to Heaven unless its gates be unlocked by the priests to whose custody the Lord gave the keys." Catechism of Trent, p. 286, (quoted in Apostolic Digest, by Michael Malone, Book 5: "The Book of Obedience", Chapter 2: "No One Can Be Saved Who Refuses Obedience to the Pastors of the Church").

"You must submit yourself faithfully to those who have charge of divine things, and you must look to them for the means of your salvation." Pope St. Gelasius I, RCH, vol. 1, p.147, (quoted in Apostolic Digest, by Michael Malone, Book 5: "The Book of Obedience", Chapter 3: "The Sacraments Administered by the Priests Are Necessary for the Salvation of All Mankind").

"For if any one will consider how great a thing it is for one, being a man, and compassed with flesh and blood, to be enabled to draw nigh to that blessed and pure nature, he will then clearly see what great honor the grace of the Spirit has vouchsafed to priests; since by their agency these rites are celebrated, and others nowise inferior to these both in respect of our dignity and our salvation. For they who inhabit the earth and make their abode there are entrusted with the administration of things which are in Heaven, and have received an authority which God has not given to angels or archangels...and what priests do here below God ratifies above, and the Master confirms the sentence of his servants. For indeed what is it but all manner of heavenly authority which He has given them when He says, 'Whose sins ye remit they are remitted, and whose sins ye retain they are retained?' What authority could be greater than this? 'The Father hath committed all judgment to the Son?' But I see it all put into the hands of these men by the Son. For they have been conducted to this dignity as if they were already translated to Heaven, and had transcended human nature, and were released from the passions to which we are liable....For transparent madness it is to despise so great a dignity, without which it is not possible to obtain either our own salvation, or the good things which have been promised to us. For if no one can enter into the kingdom of Heaven except he be regenerate through water and the Spirit, and he who does not eat the flesh of the Lord and drink His blood is excluded from eternal life, and if all these things are accomplished only by means of those holy hands, I mean the hands of the priest, how will any one, without these, be able to escape the fire of hell, or to win those crowns which are reserved for the victorious?" St. John Chrysostom, Treatise on the Priesthood, Book III, #5, Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers, Series I, Vol. IX.

What Catholic is supposed to respond.

I read that the Catholics were purged and banned from the board some time ago.

There seems to be at least one, I thought. And there are several who jump in and defend Catholic theology even though they are not.

We defend Catholic people, not Catholic theology.

What happens is `Look at the dirt I dug up on those darned Catholics. Everybody look. Yeah, let us talk about those darned Catholics. Hopefully, when we are done, you will hate your Catholic neighbors as much as we do.' Now, the claim gets made by some of these people that they love Catholics and hope that they will be proselytized by seeing the discussions here. This is shown to be untrue by these facts:
1) every time they make a claim about Catholics that is factually untrue, they do not care that it is untrue, and
2) there are very few Catholics here, and the ones that are here are not really welcome, so there are not large quantities of Catholics here to `benefit.'

As Targus indicated, there are few Catholics here, and there are no Catholics welcome here. Therefore, this provides a `safe' place for people who hate Catholics to indulge their grudges. This is why you see so much stuff like this done here. It helps no one, as there are very few Catholics here -- but it feels really good to try to spread the ill will.

Some of the people on this board need something worthwhile to do with their lives.

I haven't got time to indulge JDF's every 'God Hates Taigs' whim, but I should point out that the first quote is highly problematic for all those who claim that the Catholic Church only got going under Constantine, or later.

St. Cyprian: "Letters 61:4".
St. Cyprian lived around the year 240AD. The Catholic Church wasn't even around back then, and much of what we consider to be common Christian faith and practice was still being debated.
St. John Chrysostom
Chrysostom lives in the 300's AD. Similar argument as above.
Pope St. Gelasius
Gelasius lives in the late 400's.
Catechism of Trent, p. 286
The CoT was a medieval era document. As a reference, it was replaced with the "Catechism of the Catholic Church".

I really like Athenasius a lot. He stood up for proper doctrine though the Majority of christianity was wavering. He had a proper back bone.

Oh, I get it. You're too lazy to address the topic and not smart enough to come up with a coherent argument, so you just try to demonize me, personally, by comparing me to Fred Phelps because I dared to post things said by leaders in the Catholic Church.

Pretty clever.

How is it "dirt"? Are you saying that these statements aren't true?

1) every time they make a claim about Catholics that is factually untrue, they do not care that it is untrue

Could you please show how you came to the conclusion that these quotes are not legitimate quotes?

Do you wear a cowboy hat like Phelps too?

Well, most of what you post here is rabidly anti-Catholic, so if the cap fits, wear it; if you don't like being called on it, don't post it. And I have partly addressed one of your quotes; lack of time, rather than laziness, prevents me from saying more right now.

I still like Athenasius. He's pretty cool and I don't think he wore a hat. Though maybe he did. I like what he said in his de synod.

JDF: You invited me to search Catholic.com for your posts. You have made a lot of claims about them 'not being able to answer your questions'. I'd like to review that. Problem is, I have searched under the username Johndeerfan and there is no such user. Even being banned they would still include your post. I'm sure they haven't expunged your posts for 'revealing the true gospel'. You claim to have been banned for that reason. Anxious to check out those posts. So far, no one under 'Johndeerfan'
seems to have contributed on the forums.

Could you provide a link to any of your contributions on Catholic.com.?

That's interesting, because it came right up when I typed it in.
