    Hi Mike,

I've only been to a handful of "big city" ballgames; Huntsville, Alabama doesn't get too wild at ballgames but when we last saw Buffett in Nashville, there was a 300 pound drunk in the row in front of us (not behind us thankfully!) who could barely stand up. Minutes later, after he had walked out of the arena I saw him passed out in the hallway outside. Given my own inexperience at pro games I probably shouldn't have compared them to a JB concert.

But I definitely agree that it's pretty harmless stuff, compared to the things one would be exposed to even "channel flipping" on a TV. I would still maintain to Mr. Curtis that the experience is positive and in any event, as I said, has none of the destructive nihilistic messages found in metal and rap music which are increasingly popular with my son's age group, unfortunately, and if I can expose to him to a little "Island Fever" (what a great song--it ranks right up there almost with "A Pirate Looks at Forty") instead maybe it will pull him back to good music, though it may be a few years before he comes to any appreciation for old-time or even newer country music.
    Take care, Mike.

    Gene

Jimmy Buffet loves his fans. I always had a great time at the shows, & never got into any trouble. Even at Grateful Dead shows, ( I lost count ) I was able to ignore the few idiots that overdo it. But since becoming saved, I really don't have the desire to put myself to that kind of test.

Gene, I don't know if you're still around but we were talking about Christian Coral Reefers.

I went to Peter Meyer's website and almost all of his solo concert dates are at churches, many of them Baptist.

    Hmm....

    Gene,

I was right. It is Peter Mayer.

His last two albums were either gospel or Christmas albums.

I know you don't get here that often anymore, but if you see this in time, http://www.radiomargaritaville.com is streaming his concert tonight from Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, Ga.

I really like his song, "Sing Joy", which I think is also included on Max Lucado's album.

He has kind of a laid back Billy Sprague sound to him.

    Cool.

    Mike

Christians getting the world's "hired gun" musos to play for them?? I don't think so mate. We are the ones who are supposed to "play skillfully" (Psa 33:3) right? [IMG]

I'm not too keen on the idea of the Christian wasting talent on the world's stuff either, but would consider it on case by case basis.

Do you think that Christians should be able to make music just for the sake of art or telling a story?

Just for art? As I pointed out to young guitar players at old old Church, Hendrix was one of the greatest. Speed and technical ability to burn (along with a few Strats ;) ) and he wasted the lot of it.

Telling a story? Depends on the story :D In the words of A. Katherine Hankey "I Love To Tell The Story" [IMG]

Christians should make music or play it for Colossians 3:17 [IMG]
