==Well I did get a personal email from Joel yesterday morning and he was not a happy camper. He accused me a judging his book and said that I would be judged for my rejection of the truth he was teaching. I responded with the following message:

"Mr. Hemphill,

First we are commanded by Scripture to "test the spirits" (1Jn 4:1) and to examine everything by the Word of God. Second I have read your brochure and your webpage. If those two things are representative of your book (and I must assume they are) then you are promoting serious theological error. That means I am doing the Biblical thing by being critical of, or "judging", your publication. If you deny the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ (Jn 1:1) then it is you, sir, that will one day face judgment for the rejection of the truth (2John 7-10). I still pray that I am misunderstanding your position so please let me know if I am.

In Christ,
Martin."

Christ is certainly a stumbling block! Wouldn't Joel have to cut the book of John out of his Bible for his theology to work? Isn't Christ the stumbling block to Judaism because of monotheistic beliefs? I wonder if Joel also believes in salvation for Jews outside of Christ... I would not be surprised if he did.

Well Martin, you certainly tested the spirits!!! You tested all kinds of spirits in Joel  I thank his angry response to Martin's email stands as proof. Why would a Christian be angry about scrutiny over his doctrine is he knew it to be true?

Christian radio stations should know about this heresy...
We should call them and let them know we don't want to hear any Hemphill songs until Joel claims beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jesus IS God....

And if this doesn't work, take it to the advertisers of the stations...

I have never been for boycotts... but this is serious. People should not make money from a ministry in which they claim that Jesus is not God.

"All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him." Matthew 11:27

Mr. Hemphill should really be nicer to Jesus.

I'm not surprised. You can usually tell something is fishy by the lyrics. I know "praise and worship" songs aren't CCM (they overlap) but there are P&W songs I refuse to sing when they use them at church. The lyrics aren't Biblical at all .
I own one of the early low-power FM stations. We are a contemporary Christian station, but we limit out music (a LOT). You would be amazed at the AMOUNT of music that we throw out each year as un-playable either due to doctrine or just out-right --- 'well, you know'.

When we first started over 7 years ago we were playing a good portion of the contemporary charts, today, we are playing less than 10% of it, strictly because one listen is all it takes to decide if a song is Biblical.

We cover the state's maximum security prison with the station and it has become an important ministry for this reason alone simply because we have 100 to 200 (depending on prison population at the time) listeners who have formed a group that listen to us and even send us donations to pay he RIDICULOUS license fees we have to pay to advertise their music (You know, the music that is supposed to show the way to God, while adding money to the pockets of the record producers.

I have been involved in secular radio and I can say one thing--at least in secular radio, they are honest "We're in this for the MONEY!", then you look at the huge and growing Christian radio market. Or should I say "religious" market. It is growing by the day and it is related to ONE THING---how much money can the artist, producer and music company put in their pockets. At least Harry Potter books are being sold for money. (I say this "tongue-in-cheek" to get my point across.)

This guy doesn't surprise me one iota. The bottom line is -- in order to be successful, it helps to be "different". Look at "Criss Angel" the new magician. Is his majic new? NO---His presentation and "show" is. So, don't be suprised when you find these famous jerks having very strange theologies. They are more worried about those green bills in their pockets than the number of people they bring to the Lord (At least a good portion of them--I will leave this open for the very few who do this for the Lord's sake and most of the ones that I know who do this are NOT in the hall of fames, nor are they the rich ones. The hall of fame should be for God, not for a singer. Do we have worship centers for Paul or John today? I don't think so.

Allan, I am sorry to hear about your Mom's struggles with Lupus. I'll pray for her.

It's really neat to be in a forum with one's Mom.
