Is that how those Latin pigs sound?

One of the funniest things I've heard is a the Kyrie Eleison opening of a musical piece by P. D. Q. Bach. (If you're not familiar with P. D. Q. you're really missing something.) They sing it in pig latin Latin. The choir sings "yrie-kay, yrie-kay, yrie-kay, leison-eay!"

PDQ is one of my all-time musical heroes! He's done some of the best stuff ever re-written.

the subject of private prayer language and speaking in tongues. The New Testament gift of tongues is the ability to speak in a human language that the speaker has never learned.

Is it actually speaking in another tongue or is it that all others present here you speaking in there own tounge. Sort of like a universal translator. As I remember it the people heard them speak in there own tongues. And the way it's described the disciples didn't go around to each person individually.

That raise the question: If this is what constitutes "tongues", then why instruct that people speak in tongues only if there is an interpreter?

What is tongues?
1. I believe that tongues, as described in the New Testament, is a God-given gift to speak in an identifiable human language that one has not previously studied or known.

Is tongues for today?

4. I believe that the spiritual gift of tongues (whether a known human language or a heavenly or "non-human" language) was only given to disciples in the New Testament era.


Tongues in private?
3. I believe the Holy Spirit does not give the gift of tongues (of any kind) to anyone for their use in private prayer.


What kind of Baptist are you?
One who believes the Bible.
