We went to church with some friends we were visiting. They had joined a Methodist church (both were raised Baptist) because of the youth group for their sons.

The minister proceeded to talk about how Jesus didn't really walk on water. Moses didn't really part the Red Sea. There really was no Ark or flood. I asked my friend, at lunch, how they could stand to be under that preaching. She said she didn't even hear him. Her mind wanders during church.

I agree with DHK.

To be trueful with ya'll Id rather her go to a Baptist church. But like I said I have visited the church and so far the preacher (he is young) did preach in line with the gospel. He also did something that I have never seen done before but I really enjoyed and that was childrens time. He called all the young un's down to the front (before he preached to the congragation) and sat down on the floor with them and told them a bible story that they could use during the week to help them do the right thing. So acually we got two sermons for the price of one. (A little offering plate joke there)

Anyhow so far this Methodist church (way out in the country) hasn't gone secular (yet) and believe me if anything changes and I pick up on it, I'd let her know, because I love my MIL. I know she would probley not feel comfortable in my church because we are huggers and hand shakers and just down right friendly. (She's not that lively of a person) Like I have said before I have no problem with Baptist church either....my Dad was a Baptist Evangelist and I grew up around Baptist. Except for 2 of my neighbor ladies, my aunt, my brother....they were Spirit filled pentacostals. And thats why I'm the way I am.

The Bible teaches against Christians dividing up and calling themselves after their leaders. In the Bible, we see the saints in a city called a 'church'--perhaps because they all met together regularly as they should. The Bible doesn't teach us to divide into denomiantions.

Also, since denominations have no scriptural backing, who is to say that God recognizes denominations? If someone is in the UMC, does that mean he is spiritually tight to someone in the UMC in another city, since the Biblical boundaries of a church seem to be in his own city?

I went to college with a fiery young Methodist preacher who was very much evangelical. This was in the early 90's in Georgia. I know some evangelical Anglicans. One I met seemed very apologetic about being Anglican because of the mess going on with homosexal ordination.

Hey M4H, thanks for sharing that! Now I know why you treated me with some respect, instead of something that crawled out from underneath the woodwork.

Nice to know that someone, on this BB, has a heart. ;)
God bless you real good!
