    Does eating cornbread promote the kingdom of God? Please it was just a TV show.

    Some people go to extremes. And its just not Star Trek or even Star Wars.

    Some people watch Andy Griffeth every night. And they would not miss an episode. Even if the episode of Matlock was played about 60 times.

    Some people watch Touch By An Angel. They think that show is just the "living it". Its just a show. It makes money. They all just make money.

    This topic is just too rediculous.

    The last Movie I saw was "Chicken Run". Chicken Run has a GREAT DEAL of theology in it! What appears to be evil is 'really' good; the fact that you have chicken out smarting those poor people is definitely NOT Christian!

    They were talking about Whinercrybaby Skywalker. Some people know him by his nickname Luke.

    I think this thread is great. We can all laugh at all the fiction that has been brought up.

    Let us see, there was:

    Star Wars
    Star Trek
    Gospel in the Stars
    Chicken Run
    Matlock

    Don't stop now, it is just getting good.

    Felluz, Star Trek would have remained a lousy T.V. show if Star Wars never came along.

    I agree. the new Star Trek is far superior to the old one. But the old one is just so gloriously campy.

    Dear Ones in Christ;

    It is not the idea that Star Wars is a theological teaching tool, but rather that the spiritual concepts reflected in Star Wars are present in much of the on-going apostasy of christiandom. It was the cult of gnosticism which was such an anti-christ in the early church. John and Paul stood often against this heresy.

    2 Timothy 3:

    13
    But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
    14
    But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
    15
    And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
    16
    All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
    17
    That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

    “Orthodox Jews and Christians insist that a chasm separates humanity from Its creator: God is wholly other. But some of the gnostics who wrote these gospels contradict this: self-knowledge is knowledge of God; the self and the divine are identical.

    Second, the "living Jesus" of these texts speaks of illusion and enlightenment, not of sin and repentance, like the Jesus of the New Testament. Instead of coming to save us from sin, he comes as a guide who opens access to spiritual understanding. But when the disciple attains enlightenment, Jesus no longer serves as his spiritual master: the two have become equal--even identical.

    Third, orthodox Christians believe that Jesus is Lord and Son of God in a unique way: he remains forever distinct from the rest of humanity whom he came to save. Yet the gnostic Gospel of Thomas relates that as soon as Thomas recognizes him, Jesus says to Thomas that they have both received their being from the same source:

    Jesus said, "I am not your master. Because you have drunk, you have become drunk from the bubbling stream which I have measured out.... He who will drink from my mouth will become as I am: I myself shall become he, and the things that are hidden will be revealed to him."

    Does not such teaching--the identity of the divine and human. the concern with illusion and enlightenment, the founder who is presented not as Lord, but as spiritual guide sound more Eastern than Western? Some scholars have suggested that if the names were changed, the "living Buddha" appropriately could say what the Gospel of Thomas attributes to the living Jesus. Could Hindu or Buddhist tradition have influenced gnosticism?

    The British scholar of Buddhism, Edward Conze, suggests that it had. He points out that "Buddhists were in contact with the Thomas Christians (that is, Christians who knew and used such writings as the Gospel of Thomas) in South India." Trade routes between the Greco-Roman world and the Far East were opening up at the time when gnosticism flourished (A.D. 80-200); for generations, Buddhist missionaries had been proselytizing in Alexandria. We note, too, that Hippolytus, who was a Greek speaking Christian in Rome (c. 225), knows of the Indian Brahmins--and includes their tradition among the sources of heresy:”

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    The book, "The Mystery Jesus", is hailed by many liberal proponents, and it strongly supports the gnostic theology. Liberalism leans heavily towards a "shamanized Christ", and the embracing of eastern mysticism and the developement of the christ-conciousness, the god essence within all of creation.

    In our region many people will not drill a water-well without having it witched by a dowser. This is a practice of witchcraft.

    Many self-confessing christian denominations are introducing the practice of yoga. Even on this board I have seen many Baptist Brothers and Sisters strongly defend the practice of acupuncture, because it worked for them. Folks we have a REAL enemy, called the prince of the powers of the air, and the god of this world, who had the authority to offer the Lord Jesus Christ ALL of the kingdoms of the earth in return for worship.

    The spiritual concepts reflected in Star Wars, are absolutely reflective of our society, and the core values of those producing these epics. The battle is real with a very insidious and subtle enemy. Reminds me of the old comic Pogo, "I have seen the enemy and he is us."

    A little leavening, leaveneth the whole barrel. A little gnostic apostasy will subvert and pervert absolutely.

    I enjoyed the Old Star Trek (william Shattner) when I was a kid and didn't know any better. I mean, hey, I thought the Japanese Sci-Fi films were good... [IMG]

    Generations and DS9 were really good though. I especially enjoyed the Klingons and the Romulons. The Borg was pretty good also. Voyager just stank. That show is dying to be spoofed on Mystery Science Theater 3K. But, Star Wars is clearly superior to every sci-fi movie ever made.
