Yes Joseph Star Wars is Science Fiction, but even Science Fiction does have an agenda. This agenda is to de-sensitize (I hope this is an English word I have been in Spanish too long) people to the New Age philosophy (which really isn't new, but just the gnosticism of the first and second century with a face lift). It is just like many of the cartoons, such as He-Man (I have the Power). Excuse me I do have the power because I have Jesus Christ in my heart and He-Man doesn't cuz he does not have Jesus Christ in his heart(cuz he is a Cartoon) [IMG]

But I love science fiction, but think about what science fiction is teaching. They get by with many things in fiction that we would turn off in normal programs. The first kiss between a white male and an african american (I hope that is politically correct) woman done on T.V. in the Star Trek series between Lt. Ohura(spelling?) and Captain Kirk while another soul inhabited the body of Ohura. Which at the time it was done was not politically correct!

But it goes deeper than that. It is based on the thought that there is life on other planets. Based on the idea that God did not put them there, but that evolution did and that is why they are different, example Spock.

Just something to think about [IMG]

What was the Japanise or Chinese movie dubbed over with english, where they were spies after the egg salad recipe. I loved that one. That recipe could have had a hidden agenda too.

No thanks, Strom!

It is just a story. I know that using a little imagination might be Un-Christian,...but then wait, we do have Tim Lehaye and Gospel in the Stars. Maybe a little bit of Science Fiction isn't all that bad.

Darth Vader: Join me and together we will rule the galaxy as father and son.

Lucutius: We are the Borg. Drop your shields and lower your defenses or you will be destroyed. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

    Luke: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find it rather ironic how some get all wrapped up in this science fiction and yet find fault with Santa Claus, Father Christmas and Kris Kringle.

I am not a fan of the pictures, period, but I would suspect they are all loaded with Hollywood rubbish and ought not to be taken serously at all.

Frankly, I read fictional works and treat it as just that; a story. I can't imagine analysing the works from a theological viewpoint.

Cheers, and wot do they say,,May the farce be with you! (Oh, not a spelling error [IMG]

    Cute thread.

We like fantasy and imagination a lot at our house. We like Star Wars, Star Trek, Mary Poppins, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy,Santa Claus,Lord of the Rings, C.S. Lewis, Veggie Tales, the Great Pumpkin, Terry Brooks, Harry Potter, and on and on. I miss Thomas the Tank Engine now that my kids are older.
My husband and oldest like James Bond. Never have understood that one.

Having imagination and fun is not lying to your kids. Depends how you do it. My kids do not think I lied to them because Santa Claus came (I should say comes!)to our house.

What I am trying to say is every piece of art or fiction expresses a world view and has a moral code. Your young child does not process things the way you do. Not everything is appropriate for every child or the same child at different ages.(I think,Joseph and PTW, you may see things a LITTLE differently when your kids are older and you are trying to teach them.) Everything is a teachable moment for your kids. Your kids are not you and do not automatically (or ever?) get your thoughts and perspectives.

Star Wars is fiction, and entertainment. And it has had a large effect on popular culture. And its world view, as Rev. G. in the other thread said, has Buddhist and Hindu concepts. It is something to be aware of and to make sure your kids understand things correctly. Other than emotion and dialogue quotes, you have failed to express any reason why you have trouble with this.
As I recall, Joseph and PTW, you do not apply the same criteria to Harry Potter.

Happy Watching. We plan to go see the new Star Trek movie as soon as the crowds die down. Enjoyed Harry Potter II. Trying to go see LOTR tonight.

Yes, it does. And if you are not promoting the kingdom of God by eating, you should abstain.

    Consider these things:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2001/10/11/njedi11.xml

Snopes, of course, says this is a rumor.

The official Jedi Knights web sites and Religion of Jedi publish a disclaimer of having anything to do with George Lucas.....but then, who wants to be sued by George Lucas for copyright infringement?

It was basically a small group of mental patients who have no grip on what is reality and what is Science Fiction. But, none of us have that problem, do we... [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I'm not sure how to take this. I will assume it was good-natured.

But lest one sot should scoff at the idea, I would post the Scriptures:

Star Wars: Good vs evil. Good wins, evil doesn't.

Yeah, sounds like satanism at its core.
