Spiritual Warfare

I was reading this to today:

To understand the battle of spiritual warfare, we need to begin with acknowledging that we are in a war. Battles make up smaller components of the bigger picture. By definition, battles involve combat between two persons, between factions, between armies and they consist of any type of "extended contest, struggle, or controversy" (Webster-Merriam). As Christians, we are in a spiritual battle of some sort on a daily basis. In warfare, battles are fought on different fronts, for different reasons, and with varying degrees of intensity. The same is true in spiritual warfare. Our spiritual battles and warfare are real, even though we cannot physically see the attacker. But, we can educate ourselves on how the battles are fought and how they impact our lives on a daily basis.
Spiritual Warfare - Understanding What It Is & How to Fight the Battle

What is your understanding of Spiritual Warfare, of the believers role, God's actions, the powers with whom we battle?

The war is real and the battleground is here and now.

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Here's is a fight song from Issac Watts... Am I A Soldier Of The Cross?

  1. Am I a Soldier of the Cross,
    A follow’r of the Lamb?
    And shall I fear to own His cause,
    Or blush to speak His name?
  2. Must I be carried to the skies
    On flow’ry beds of ease,
    While others fought to win the prize,
    And sailed through bloody seas?
  3. Are there no foes for me to face?
    Must I not stem the flood?
    Is this vile world a friend to grace,
    To help me on to God?
  4. Sure I must fight if I would reign;
    Increase my courage, Lord;
    I’ll bear the toil, endure the pain,
    Supported by Thy Word.
  5. Thy saints in all this glorious war
    Shall conquer, though they die;
    They see the triumph from afar,
    By faith’s discerning eye.
  6. When that illustrious day shall rise,
    And all Thy armies shine
    In robes of vict’ry through the skies,
    The glory shall be Thine.

A hymn by P. P. Bliss (1870)
"Hold the Fort"

1. Ho, my comrades, see the signal, waving in the sky!
Reinforcements now appearing, victory is nigh.

Refrain:
“Hold the fort, for I am coming,” Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to heaven, “By Thy grace we will.”

2. See the mighty host advancing, Satan leading on,
Mighty ones around us falling, courage almost gone!

3. See the glorious banner waving, Hear the trumpet blow!
In our Leader’s Name we triumph over every foe.

4. Fierce and long the battle rages, but our help is near,
Onward comes our great Commander, cheer, my comrades, cheer!

You probably remember this one when you were a little kid... Get on your marching shoes!... I smell a battle!

1 Onward, Christian soldiers,
marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
going on before!
Christ, the royal Master,
leads against the foe;
Forward into battle,
see his banner go!

Refrain:
Onward, Christian soldiers,
marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
going on before!

2 At the sign of triumph
Satan's host doth flee;
On, then, Christian soldiers,
on to victory!
Hell's foundations quiver
at the shout of praise;
Brothers, lift your voices,
loud your anthems raise! [Refrain]

3 Like a mighty army
moves the church of God;
Brothers, we are treading
where the saints have trod;
We are not divided;
all one body we,
One in hope and doctrine,
one in charity. [Refrain]

4 Onward, then, ye people,
join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices
in the triumph song;
Glory, laud, and honor,
unto Christ the King;
This thro' countless ages
men and angels sing. [Refrain]

I facilitate an online Bible study of Christian men from various places around the world. We are closing on 3 straight years of study, rarely taking a week off. We meet throughout the summer because we view ourselves as warriors for the Kingdom and we know that Satan does not take summers off. Satan fights 24/7/365 and therefore so do we. We meet to encourage each other and to fight besides each other in prayer. I love the comraderie of the men. We hold differing views both biblically and politically, but we have our unity in Christ and we extend grace to all. Having brothers supporting me and me supporting them has been absolutely blessed.

If you are interested in joining a ragtag group of online brothers in Bible study and prayer, just PM me. Our purpose in fellowship is to encourage one another to endure and worship our King.

Oh, I certainly do remember this one from when I was a kid, (and it's never grown old!). I believe it's been sung in every church I've attended. It's in my top 10 hymns of all time.

And you are not either... Now you can sing it!... Brother Glen:)

What! No Ave Maria ? No Sinatra (salute to NJ Italian heritage) & Frankie Vallie Jersey Girl?

Seriously, there is a specific “Mystery of Faith” they ingrained in me which is life & death all mixed together; the pascal mystery: Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ will always come again.

Come Lord Jesus ( Revelation 22:17 )

Every Tuesday, year around. The only time we miss is when I can't get on and host the zoom session. God has brought brothers from Brazil, Panama, and a West African country as well as men from various areas of the US. Our purpose is to see Christ in scripture, recognize our marching orders, and encourage each other to fight the good fight. We extend grace as there are varying opinions on issues. For example, one brother holds conspiracy theories and is anti vax, while another brother wore multiple masks and never left the house. Both extend grace and love each other in Christ, recognizing our common bond.
The ragtag crew ranges in age from 13 to 76 years in age. I am encouraged by God's work in this group and I have gained brothers from all around that I consider dear friends.

Hmmm, I’ve never used zoom so have no idea how to sign in but it sounds like a good mechanism to use to communicate and share Christ.
