Ho-hum, IMHO. The tax increase comment about those wanting it & IRS welcoming checks and MOs was cute, though. OW, lame duck.

 Hubby and I rolled at the tax increase/IRS comment! Unpopular as I may be, I regret that Bush is leaving office after this year. Go ahead and throw your stones now :tonofbricks: , but people are going to realize in about two years just how much Bush did for this country. If a Democrat gets into office, there are going to be a whole lot of people feeling a sight more than regret that Bush is gone...

I won't. The Bush administration has been pretty much a disaster for most Americans.

Their wallets will certainly be lighter.

Most Americans? Whom are you speaking for? I dare say the economy(till lately) has been great, the stock market has soared past 12,000+, tax refunds, lowest unemployment rate in decades, I dare say your property value in the last 8 years have almost tripled, and most important he was able to put in 2 Conservatives onto the Supreme Court. God help us if the Democrat gets into office---can you say Carter of the 70's. The stock market will fall dramatically, as will business growth, amnesty for illegals, more abortions, bigger government, higher taxes and of course nominations of Liberal Judges to the Suprme Court is the ultimate nightmare. You might need to rethink your comments. As bad as you might perceive it to be, it could be alot worse!:BangHead:

There are no stones to throw. There have been things Bush has done that were very disappointing, at times acting exactly like a Democrat. I voted for him twice. Compared to the present crop of candidates, he is not so bad.

What is really sad is that this year, some of the Republican candidates are as bad as the Democrats (ie Romney, Giuliani), and the rest are average.

There are no Roosevelts, Kennedys, or Reagans in the race. Even is one disagrees with Bush, the time for criticizing him has past.

I think we will be saying that regardless of which party wins.

Now that's the sad part. :tear:

When said in this, or any other race for high office, race, this 'word of praise' really sounds like an indictment of all, both including the incumbent and the one who may succeed him or her.

Yes, you are correct: he will remembered for what he did:
1. MASSIVE budget deficits
2. A quagmire in Iraq with no end in sight.

Now this laughable economic stimulus will be the capstone on quite a Presidential tenure. It will undoubtedly be remembered for precisely what it was.

BiR

change of gears: I didn't watch it...I can't stand the ridiculous phoniness of the night.

You've got a president up there with an approval rating of 25%, speaking to a bunch of lawmakers with an approval rating of 15%. Every two sentences, the Republicans applaud. Every six sentences, everybody applauds. And 2-3 times per address, the Dems applaud, and the Repubs shut up (that's the proverbial "throw me a bone here" that all presidents do).

It's so phony. I wish they'd all shut up.
Not to mention, the speech would be 6 minutes if they'd all sit on their hands and quit acting like a doggone Jerry Springer audience.

(rant over...ya'll can go back to bomb-throwing)

Backed by democrats all the way. Their only complaint is that he's not giving away enough money in this package...

 Amen to that! Has anybody but me noticed that the economic downturn began after the Democrats took over the Congress? Yet, we blame Bush...

I completely agree. The only candidate I come remotely close to liking is Huckabee; I think I could even vote for Paul if he was really in the running. Unfortunately, neither of those are likely to be around in November. So, I don't know what we'll do when election day rolls around.
