Quoted by Scott J: I am saying that for every one time someone stops and listens to the guy there are hundreds who drive by with their negative impressions of fundamental evangelical Christianity reinforced.

That is painting with a pretty broad brush. Is it as effective as door knocking? Tract passing? Are those hundreds of people the same ones that close doors on us and tell us they are all set? Or throw our tracts in the trash?

Although I agree that most of the street preachers need to update their methods, it can be as effective as any other method. There is nothing wrong or unbiblical about street preaching.

I will say most are negative because when we go into unsaved turf, most are and will be negative. There may even be a little persecution. All forseen in the scriptures.

Jewsus obviously didn't make alot of positive impressions.

My home church is right on the freeway in my home town. The Highway Department has told us that on average there are 50,000 cars which pass by us every single day of the year.

For every one unsaved person who walks into our doors, how many thousands do you suppose drive by with their negative impressions of those "evil fundamentalist Baptists"?

Would you have us close our doors based on the overwhelming majority's negative impressions? Or should we close based on the ratio of those unsaved coming to church versus those who see us as "wackos" thereby implying our ineffectiveness?

Neither should we suppose then that street preachers should quit based on negative impressions.

Jim, You're welcomed. I always wanted to attend a class, but I never did. but I know several folks that have. It is a life changing experience. A friend of mine took the one or two week class after he was a believer for only a couple years. He is now fearless (!) in his testimony.
