Study of John 3:16

Your mind is poisoned against dispensationalists and I say what do titles mean when you are seeking truth? If you have a doctrine of the kingdom of God that you can present that honors words and historical and prophetical and literary context I will be the first to believe you.

the kingdom as presented by Christ and the apostles

The Key word is "now." It is foolish to be unable to follow the logic of centuries of Bible context and nail your whole understanding to one passage that does not negate what has been revealed before and after that conversation. The physical kingdom of Jesus Christ on the earth could not have occurred before his death, burial, and resurrection, nor could it have been established before his citizenship was born again. This is true because the condition for entering his kingdom is the new birth. "Except a man be born again, he said, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." When Jesus Christ inagurates his earthly kingdom every single soul on earth will be saved and will have the Spirit of God. Those who are born in the kingdom years will need to be saved and many will not.

John 18:36
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

Think!

I thought this was a Baptist forum.
Yet another non-sequitur post addressing nothing, sound and fury signifying nothing.

God loved humanity in this way, He gave His uniquely divine Son so that everyone believing into Him will not perish, but have everlasting life.

1) There are some who claim every lost person is innately unable to believe in Christ until they are altered by "irresistible grace." That view is inconsistent with John 3:16. Clearly the verse does not read, everyone irresistibly caused to believe into Him.

2) There are some who claim God does not love humanity in general, but only a pre-selectied few within humanity. Same group denies God actually desires all people to be saved. Here the idea they falsely claim is God desires all previously selected people to be saved.

3) If God is Omnipotent, He has the power to know whatever He chooses and to not know whatever He chooses not to know.
Those that deny this believe not in the God of the Bible, but the god of their own invention.

Such nonsense. 2 Thessalonians 2:13 says we were chosen for salvation through faith in the truth. You somehow construe this to mean we were born anew out of the blue, then caused to believe irresistibly, then chosen for salvation. Utter nonsense.
You are in error because you cannot accurately quote scripture. Quoting accurately undermines your beliefs, which is why you don’t quote the whole passage.

2 Thessalonians 2:13 says we were chosen for salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth.

Through sanctification (setting apart) is first completed by God Holy Spirit. Belief in the truth is the means by which Holy Spirit brings the person to salvation

Hope this helps you to understand the truth of God’s word.

peace to you

1) You inserted from the beginning, but did not say from the beginning of what? God chose those whose faith in Christ He credited as righteousness from the beginning of the New Covenant.

2) You inserted "to hollowing of the Spirit," but did not say what you think your obscure phrase means.

a) Baptized (transferred) into Christ's body spiritually?
b) Sealed within Christ's body?
c) Made holy and blameless by the washing of regeneration?
d) Taught (tutored) by the Spirit into maturity?

I think the obscure phrase means indwelt with the Holy Spirit unto holiness and to belief of truth. I believe before the foundation of the world, God chose, in Christ, those to be of the first fruit of a kind of his creatures James 1:18.

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jer 1:5

I think the problem is the blending of verses (and writers) to make John 3:16 say what is not stated.

God loved the world by sending His only (unique) begotten (of the same essence, i.e., equal to God) Son (representing a father) that whoever believes (anybody without exception) will have everlasting life.

It is a simple statement that does not go against Calvinism (the whoever part) or free-will theology.

1) Calvinists use the logical fallacy of "against the person" argumentation to defend their false and unbiblical doctrine.

2) The interpretive translation of John 3:16 actually translates the text accurately.

3) Note 2 Thessalonians says we are "chosen" for salvation not brought to salvation, though "faith in the truth." Thus our faith exists before, repeat before we were chosen for salvation. That, folks, is the accurate wording of the text, unlike the Calvinist rewrite.

All these claims and beliefs are false and erroneous.

1) The hollowing of the Spirit refers to an action by the Spirit, doing something to shape or conform the affected individual.

2) Yes, hollowing could refer to undergoing the washing of regeneration resulting in holiness.

3) No, hollowing, nor any scripture says we are brought into belief in the truth. We were chosen for salvation through our belief in the truth.

4) James 1:12 teaches once approved we will receive the crown of life (being made alive together with Christ). And we receive approval through faith, thus once and if our faith is credited as righteousness, then we receive the crown of life.

5) James 1:18 says once we have been brought forth, born anew, made alive, then we become like first fruits among His creatures. We become siblings of Christ, thus related to the "First Fruits."

I think this is super simple and is being made different degrees of complex depending on the teacher.

God has one son by a woman. This Son is Jesus Christ and this word "begotten" is to be understood in the same way that this word is used elsewhere in the scriptures. God is the father and Mary is the mother. Jesus has the Divine nature from his father and he is a natural man through his mother. He is the only man who has ever been born in this fashion. Therefore he is the "only" begotten son of God.

This is a fundamental of the faith. If this is not believed and accepted a person is not saved. The entire gospel of John was written for the expressed reason to make this perfectly clear and is required of all men in that day as to what they must believe to have eternal life.

I am not guessing about this. John actually gave this reason for writing his gospel.

John 20:30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

In the context of this gospel and the person of Jesus Christ from his introduction to Israel by John the Baptist it is required that the Jews believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah of Israel and the Son of God. Nothing else is required at this point and this is not required of any other race. Those who will have eternal life will believe this and be justified. They are not required to believe in his death, burial, and resurrection. It is required they believe he is the Son of God and the Messiah of Israel who was promised in their OT scriptures. This is not a essage that will justify a gentile.

Mat 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.
11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.
12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.
13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Lk 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
4 Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.
5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.
7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
10 But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,
11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
12 But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.

Matt 15:21 Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

What preaching will save the gentiles?

Jn 12:20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.
34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:

If one will understand the scriptures he must accept and note the transitions in the scriptures. Every person on the earth has a duty to believe God to be justified, but only that which God says to them. If the woman of Canaan or the Greeks at the feast had believed what Israel was required to believe while Jesus ministered on the earth they would not be justified and God did not say they would be.

Read the scriptures believing the words is my best advice to Christians.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

John 6:29 Jesus answered and said to them, 'This is the work of God, that ye may believe in him whom He did send.'

Wonder if that comes through the Spirit of Truth? Belief?

You misrepresented what 2 Thessalonians 2:13 says by leaving out “chosen for salvation through sanctification of the Spirit” and replacing this truth with “chosen for salvation through belief…”

You are unable to reconcile what the passage says with your beliefs, so you change it to fit your beliefs. That is intellectual dishonesty. That is changing the words, literally, to make the passage fit what you believe.

That is why you can never be taken seriously as a biblical scholar.

One problem is that God sent Hos only Son into the World (not "begotten or born into the World"....the language is of One sending His Son, which implies already being Hos Son before being sent).

Another problem is the word "begotten" in reference to being God's Son points to divinity rather than humanity (the "son of a father" woukd be "God of God" instead of "man of God".

If we read the Bible believing the words then "begotten" cannot refer to Jesus birth as man.

Belief?

If you would just recognize that that to ascertain what a verse such as John 6:29 means, you must study it, not wonder about it.

Here is the NET translation of the verse:

John 6:29
Jesus replied, "This is the deed God requires - to believe in the one whom he sent."

Therefore the phrase "the work of God" might mean a work performed by God upon the individual, or it might mean a work God requires the lost to do to gain access to eternal life.

Everyone God gives (transfers into) Christ will never be cast out, John 6:37.

For this is the will of my Father - for everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him to have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

So the meaning is not something to wonder about, the meaning is clear, when and if God credits the faith of a lost person as righteousness, they will be transferred into Christ and be made (eternally) alive.

There is no mystery!!

You have repeated this nonsense before, but 2 Thessalonians 2:13 is there for everyone to read. We were chosen for salvation through (1) being set apart in Christ and (2) having our faith in the truth credited as righteousness.

Now you might absurdly claim having our faith credited as righteousness in not in that verse, but it is implied because nobody would claim we were chosen through faith that God did not credited as righteousness.

You are unable to see your doctrine has no basis in scripture, but to use false claims of mind reading, in defense of those doctrines is hardly consistent with Christ's commands.

Did anyone claim I am a "biblical scholar?" Nope so more misdirection, more false innuendo.

Again, you are unable (unwilling?) to accurately quote the passage.

It does not say “set apart in Christ” it says sanctified (set apart) by the Spirit.

You are literally reading your theology into the passage and changing the words to support your view.

And you claim any other view to be absurd.

I’m all done, now.

Peace to you

Now some might hold a different understanding of "through sanctification by the Spirit) as referring to the way we were set apart in Christ, but no such alternate view has been expressed. Just "taint so" denial of the obvious.
