Yes, when two people have the same top score they are tied for first place. The next highest score is in second place. Don't know why this has to be explained.

Are you sure about that? Looks to me like purple guy is in third place, not second. If two people tie for first, the next open place is third. If two people tie for second, the next open place is fourth, and etc., right?

No. This isn't like league standings in sports with the various tiebreakers (wins against opponents, wins in the division, most points scored, least points allowed, etc.)

If McMullin isn't in second place in this poll, who is?

Correct. This is pretty rudimentary stuff:

Evan McMullin Overtakes Gary Johnson in Utah at 22%

"In a recently released poll from Utah, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are in a statistical tie with Evan McMullin and Gary Johnson following in third and fourth place respectively."

There is no second place here, sheesh - if this poll is accurate, what you have here is a statistical tie for first place, MoE.

I don't care much for the internals:

because they ask about the Trump tape and not wikilinks, for one. It's also hard to believe that this McMullen person will ever win a state where almost half of the voters have no idea who he is.

Hope it holds, those third parties are doing much better than the historical record shows there - want Utah to botch this and go for Clinton by fracturing the GOP vote and want Colorado to go Trump. Mix it up for 'em.

Utah going to a 3rd party is one of the scenarios, probably the most likely, where the election gets thrown in the House of Representatives. Trump takes FL, PA, and NC. Clinton gets OH, VA, WI. McMullin wins Utah. Neither Trump or Clinton get the needed 270 electoral votes. The House would then put Trump in the White House. I'm kind of pulling for this to happen, just to see history made.

Utah has always been more purple than red or blue. They have voted republican, bu most of their candidates have not been conservatives, except socially.
