Suicide and Spiritual Warfare

I think what gets me about BJU's stance is that they ignore the fact that the tunes often sung in churches were contemporary at one time. I noted on another thread that one of my favorite songs is "How Great Thou Art," yet it is set to a Swedish Folk tune. Is it that they believe music must sound foreign to be acceptable? But, is it foreign to God (or does he say "hey, that is a Swedish folk tune?).

If you think the music issue is just about rejecting new music, you don't understand the reasoning at all.

No preacher that I know rejects Contemporary Christian music because it is new.

is any form of music really sinful though?

isn't God glorified by petra/Imperials/Elvis singing to him?

I never thought that...although I am more fond of the traditional (older, that is) hymns. What I was getting at was exactly what part of the music you deemed wrong...which you have answered (the rhythm). While I disagree that this is the determining factor I do believe that one can listen to the music and determine where it stands in terms of Galatians 5 (which fruits it brings to mind). But I am not sure that this is entirely objective.
