Super Bowl Prediction Thread

I agree, NY came prepared and played a tough defensive game. That play by Eli was spectacular and showed they were willing to put it all out there for the win.

I was not for NY but I have to admit they played a great game and deserved the WIN... :applause:

 

That post game interview of Belicheck was priceless. He got what he deserved. What a sore loser, cheat and classless individual.

The way they ran the score up on teams they beat this year, I was hoping the Giants would run to the line of scrimmage when Belicheck was walking over to shake Coughlin's hand with .01 seconds left. The NE defense was already walking towards the locker room, and they could have scored very easy with that .01 seconds left

 

Have to say I am not a big fan of American football. When Eli throew his interception it was after midnight for me so I put a tape in the VCR (yes they are still around) and hit record. I watched the rest of the game this morning without knowing the result.

I didn't think game itself was great, poor protection on both sides, mistakes, poor passing, no rushing, etc.

However, the last 5 minutes were pure excitement. I think one of my favourite plays in any sport will have the be the almost sack on Eli and the helmet catch (don't know the player there). You had to feel then that somehow they were going to do it.

The shots of Peyton were priceless.

I actually was pumped about American football this morning

 

They actually showed the game down here. I saw the first half but it was already too late in the evening so I went to bed. The first half was one of the most boring Super bowl performances I have seen IMO. I guess the second half was better.

Well the Mannings must be proud parents now with two sons who have won a Super Bowl.
NE has nothing to be ashamed of though. What they accomplished this year was "magical".

 

I couldn't disagree with you guys more. That was an exciting game from start to finish and it's likely the best Super Bowl ever.

 

Great game. I am so happy. Teams like the Patriots don't deserve to win. I don't think this was a huge upset, though. The Patriots were overrated. Today's NFL is so parity-driven, which is a good thing, IMO. The Giants are a very good team. The Patriots are a very good team (even better when they cheat as they most likely did these last 7 years). But neither team is great.

 

I would agree.

It was the best Superbowl I have watched since the Broncos/ Packers game back in the 90s.

 

It was a great super bowl. I'm surprised how close Plaxico Burress came to his prediction, and how Brady looked like an idiot on media day for acting shocked they would "only" score that many points (they scored LESS).

It was a good defensive performance in the first 3 quarters by both teams. Those games are the best.

I'm glad to see Eli Manning's critics (including myself) silenced. His QB rating during this years playoffs were 20 points higher than Peyton's last year. 6 TD 1 INT compared to Peyton's 3 TD 7 INT.

The half time show was good. Tom Petty sang my 3 favorite songs from him.

Overall, a great super bowl!

 

Wow. Eli definitely came into his own this year in the playoffs. I did not realize how much better his stats were than Peyton's last year. It will be interesting to see how he responds and plays next year with the monkey off his back.

It was fun to watch Peyton's reactions during the game and see him standing cheering on his brother. That is quite an achievement for a family to have 2 sons not just win the Superbowl, but win them in back to back years. Maybe one year we will get to see a Manning v. Manning Superbowl.

 

It was a great game ... I was so wrong in what I thought would happen. I am glad for the Giants and sad that we have to have another year of the '72 dolphins bragging about how great they were. (they were, but I think more people would say it if they weren't so busy talking about themselves) :tonofbricks:

 

Would you rather have had the Patriots doing the same bragging forever? I'll take the Dophins over those cheating, pompous Patriots any day.

 

I think I will do an update to my "greatest Super Bowls" list. I currently have the Broncos/Packers as no.1, but I think last night's game surpassed that. One thing is for sure, the last 10 years have had some of the greatest Super Bowls ever, which is one good result from a parity-driven league.

 

Wow, Webdog - you and I are on the same page on this one! I couldn't agree more. The '72 Dolphins are like the old, crazy uncle who gives you a chuckle when he talks. The Patriots are like the evil black sheep who no one in the family likes.

I'd rather have the Patriots bragging than the Giants, myself. The Dolphins, after 35+ years, have convinced themselves and many fans that they actually accomplished something--though they played what is still the weakest schedule in NFL history and only played a couple teams with winning records. They will continue to believe they were the greatest team in NFL history until someone has a perfect season against tougher competition.

Every team will have its braggarts, and now we have to listen to Jeremy Shockey and the other Giants flap his yap some more even though he didn't even play. I'm already appalled at so many of them saying "we knew we'd win" and "we knew we were better." And the ever-present "no one gave us any credit" that every team says every year.

I liked the Packers/Broncos Super Bowl too, largely because I'm a Broncos fan. But even then I had to put up with Shannon Sharpe and Romanowski yap yap yapping.

I am very impressed with how the Giants managed to keep their emotional high every week starting with the close week 17 loss to the Pats. I expected them to be unable to keep the emotion up and cave each game. And how do you go into Lambeau Field and win when it's 5 below zero? !!

Outstanding defensive play during the Super Bowl.

 

It was a great football game. That third and five play where Manning broke the tackle and completed that pass to Tyree had to be one of the most consequential plays in the history of the superbowl. I'm not a big foot ball watcher, but that game was a classic.

 

Yes, I would rather it be them... After all those lousy mammals beat my Redskins... :laugh: :laugh:

 

Did anyone else notice this? In the 4th quarter with 8:24 to play, the Giants had a 3rd and 9. The previous play was an incomplete pass, so the clock had stopped. When they started the next play, the clock never ran. The Giants completed the pass in bounds, but it was short of the first down, so they punted. The clock never ran the entire time until the punted the ball! I figured that about 30-40 seconds should have expired had they started the clock at the 3rd and 9 snap.

I have not heard anyone talk about this. The announcers missed it. I have seen no articles about it. To me, this is huge. Had those 30-40 seconds expired, that last drive by the Giants would have been much different.

Whoever ran the clock last night was horrible. Along with this, there were a few other mishaps, including the Patriots last play where it ran down to zero and then they put 2 seconds, then 1 second back on the clock.

 

Yes, I saw what you are referring to, but that clock you see on your screen is just a graphic for television.

 

But I never saw a subsequent adjustment, but I could have missed it. I think if they had adjusted it, the announcers would have said something, like "our graphic had the wrong time" or something like that.

 

Why would you be appalled by this? Professional athletes go into games with the mindset that they're going to win. They don't care about the odds, because they think they're good enough to overcome the odds. Sometimes they are. Show me a pro athlete who doesn't think he's better than the other guy, and I'll show you a pro athlete who is, or is going to be, out of a job.

And, who among the football experts and most fans gave them credit? I know of only 1 football expert that picked the Giants to win. Every single expert that I read picked the Patriots to win. The Giants have every right to play the "nobody gave us credit" card, because very few people thought they had a legitimate chance to win the game.
