Super holy is unholy

The goal for the Christian should NEVER be to be "super holy." The goal ought always be for him to be holy. Super holy is unholy.The BIBLE way is holiness. The moment you add to the Bible some extra level of austerity or asceticism, you have corrupted holiness.

For example, if it is holy for women to dress modestly, then it is not more holy for women to only wear colorless dresses that flow to their feet. Those who practice the latter while thinking it makes them a bit holier are actually less holy for it. Why? Because adding to the Bible is the ESSENCE of unholiness.

If the Bible teaching on drinking is moderation, it is not more holy to preach teetotalism. Teetotalism is not as holy as moderation because the Bible is holier than the standards of men. That doesn't mean that every Christian should drink, but it does mean that no Christian should teach that no Christian should drink. Adding to the Bible is unholiness.

The holy path is the Bible path. The unholy path is everything else. That includes extra strong standards that the Bible does not teach.

Some of the unholiest people in the world are sitting in movements that identify themselves as "Holiness" movements. If extra asceticism is unholy, and it is, then there are a lot of churches in this world that are less holy than a lot of prisons in this world.

Holier than the Bible??
That is self-defeating.

1 Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Are you as holy as God is holy? That ought to be your aim.

Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
--Again, we fall well short of this command. If you are not perfect or as holy as Christ, then make that your goal.

Perhaps, in this thread, you want to see how fine you can draw the line to worldliness and still be considered a Christian, or does that violate the principles of those who hold to the LS view?

Good post.

If you died with the Messiah to the elemental forces of this world, why do you live as if you still belonged to the world? Why do you submit to regulations: “Don’t handle, don’t taste, don’t touch”? All these regulations refer to what is destroyed by being used up; they are commands and doctrines of men. Although these have a reputation of wisdom by promoting ascetic practices, humility, and severe treatment of the body, they are not of any value in curbing self-indulgence. - Col 2:20-23​

The book of Leviticus explains the differences between holiness and uncleanness providing various levels of both.

The high priest was the "inner circle" of holiness and had to adhere to some very strict rules to maintain his purity particularly during various religious ceremonies.

The Messiah Jesus is our high priest and bears the burden of remaining holy, he is without sin, clean before God.

We communicate to our father through the holiness of Christ.
We have close fellowship with him when we are ourselves are clean and have confessed our need for his covering of our uncleanness.

To profess total purity/holiness would be to minimize the need for a high priest.

Comparing Scripture with Scripture, maybe along with the idea of your OP:

"Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself? Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?" (Eccl 7:16-17, KJV)

For those who struggle with KJV English :laugh: .....

"Do not be over-righteous and do not be over-wise. Why should you destroy yourself? Do not be over-wicked and do not be a fool. Why die before your time?" (Eccl 7:16-17, REB)
