Superbowl

I'm a college ball fan myself so, although it was on the TV, I didn't pay much attention to it until half time. The real question should be: Shouldn't the Rolling Stones retire? They just don't sound as good as they did when I saw them many years ago at Candlestick Park.

I noticed one baptist church that we pass en route to our church advertising on their marque a Superbowl party for the event. How sad is that?

 

I enjoyed every minute of it.

I went to church in the morning! Came home and spent some time with the family. Took a little nap, then went to the gym. Came home sometime in the second quarter and made nachos and sat on the couch by my 4 year old daughter watching football and eating nachos.

She picked seatle to win because pink is her favorite color but then dark blue then light blue. I spent the whole game answering the question "Why did they do that, dad?" "Did blue win yet, dad?"

I did my best to explain the game to her. Like I said I enjoyed every minute of the game. I dont care if it was a good game or not. And we both enjoyed the Bud ads, she loves horses.

After working alot of overtime for the last several months, the superbowl was very quality time with my daughter.

 

I went to choir practice at 4:30 and didn't see it.

 

Did you keep your eyes closed, how did you fail to see the choir practice you were at?

 

We watched it on tape. No US ads on it.

The cheerleaders were not that good looking, IMHO and acted like, well, "cheerleaders".

I watched the last few minutes of the 3rd and parts of the 4th quarter after evening service. We have separate services for the men and women on Sunday nights so the men were meeting upstairs in my living room and the ladies were meeting downstairs. Good thing, too as one lady accepted Christ (downstairs after the women's service) while the guys were upstairs hooting and hollering. Who says Baptists can't get Pentcostal???

 

No, I did not watch it.

Our church had a soup-er bowl fellowship following the evening service. We missed a bit of the game, but there was a point to all this. We collected canned soup to take to our local baptist mission. In fact, payment for entrance was at least one can of soup per person. We watched the game as it was projected on the wall (12 feet wide), ate and fellowshiped. There were other activities going on in the SS rooms for those who weren't crazy about football. We brought in oodles of canned soup!!

We changed the channel during half time and watched "Ice Age" until the game resumed.

 

Taped the game (sans commercials) and had a youth fellowship following church. The kids watched the first half, and then went outside to play hide and seek in the dark backyard. It was just the adult sponsors left in the room...

 

I pulled out a 8' screen and its projector from our kids area, set it up in my family room, and watched the Super Bowl with a group of guys from the church. It was a blast. We laughed at the commercials and ate more food than we probably should have. I don't remember any cheerleader shots although I am sure there were. We cheered both teams, booed the terrible calls by the refs, and most importantly, connected.

The game was mediocre but the fellowship was awesome.

 

Yes. Seattle could have won if they didn't fall apart.

If they were funny and/or creative, I laughed at them.

I'm not the kind of person to be filled with lustful thoughts at the sight of every cheerleader. I have more discipline than that. So to answer the question: nothing.

Let each be convinced in his own mind. If one feels that watching the SB causes one to stumble, or causes damage to their faith walk, then no. If it does not, then it's entirely up to that person.

I don't remember noticing any, to be honest. But that's irrelevant to answering your question. You asked "What about the shots of the cheerleaders?". I answered "nothing".

No disagreement, but I was speaking in reference to Paul's "let each be convinced in his own mind". While those words were written for a different topic, they apply here reasonably well.

Actually, it's "abstain from all forms of evil". Some translate the word as "appearance".

Whether it's permissible for a Christian to consume alcohol or not is a completely different topic altogether. In this thread, one cannot judge a person's heart, righteousness, or faithfulness, based solely on whether or not they watched a budweiser commercial during the Superbowl, or any other sporting event.

So, Sal, why did you ask the questions in the OP if you already knew the answer? To pontificate the unrighteousness of other posters? Or were you actually interested in sincere responses in the context of respectful discussion? I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and hope you were sincerely seeking the latter.

Naaaaank! it is entirely up to the Holy Spirit in that person's heart. Abstaining from every appearance of evil is still good. I assure you... the kids were not "unsurpervised". And I can assure you that no one lost their "virignity" although, I'm not exactly sure what that is.

If you are bemoaning the fact that the kids might have been unsupervised in the backyard, and someone could have lost their virginity, than please post that. "Preview Post" is a wonderful tool to browse over what you just said and make sure that you said what you think you said.

Now, as to your attack on my method of youth ministry. Our youth have my trust, and even so, were NOT unsupervised. If you came down from your Mount of Transfiguration long enough to know what youth ministry is, you might know that it's often not about the game on TV. It's about the fellowship we can have with the youth of our church, even if it's just playing hide and seek. Get a grip, take a Midol for any cramps, and get over yourself.

Thanks PastorSBC for your call for an apology. No apology is needed. I wouldn't expect one from Salamander anyway.
