How gracious of you to accept a Methodist as a brother or sister in Christ. [IMG] </font>[/QUOTE]Wasn't me, it's the Lord!

I have found that anyone who trusts in Christ alone to merit the name, "Christian", but then their are later connotations to maintain that testimony.

Actually the Steelers were the first team to have cheerleaders.

    http://www.matthewmcgee.org/roman-rd.html

I remember reading a story about one of them in the local paper. Gladly they didn't last long. But they wrer properly dressed. Not like today.

And of course being from the Pittsburgh area I watched the game. And it was quite enjoyable too. :D

WOW,, No wonder I love being a baptist!!

I just read all the posts so far and what a demonstration of forgiveness and reconciliation.

We can fight, but in the end love each other..

BTW, I have always disliked (started to say "hated", but thought better ;) )the Steelers... I'm a die-hard Cowboys fan!

I don't care who does what with their youth ministry, church ministry etc...I 'm only responsible for my own ministry.

With that being said I have never been to one of these services where the superbowl is being aired in church as a "service". Our church had regular services.Afterward the youth were having a "superbowl party". It consisted of watching the game on a big screen complete with the showing of all the ads.
The halftime show was not shown. Some fellow led a devotional. The youth were about as interested in that devotional as going to the dentist to get a tooth removed.
I'm a big steelers fan. I really enjoyed the superbowl.
With that being said I have to say I was real uncomfortable sitting there watching beer ads, sexually suggestive ads etc... with a bunch of teenagers. Especially when I'm one of the church's missionaries.
Some of the adult, youth workers were uncomfortable as well.
I'm not judging pastor's guidance on this issue. Our church is not real "contemporary nor is it ultra fundamentalist.
I thought it was kind of sad how when the ads came on you could tell alot of the kids identified with the ads. They were "accostomed" to seeing that kind of stuff. Then we allow it to be seen even at a church function? Don't they get enough exposure to titillating ads, sex, booze on a daily basis without it having to be brought into a church function?
I just don't see the logic in having the superbowl aired to the youth complete with the sexy, provacative ads then at half time we are going to have devos instead of listening to the Stones? What is the point?
Alot of times a devo. geared to youth is something about staying pure, or living for Christ, etc... Then soon as half time is over let us get back to the superbowl with all of it's "highly suggestive" ads to drink it up, sex it up etc....
We preach from the pulpit at least I do that we should watch over our children, be careful of their associations, what is going into their brains etc... Then we turn a blind eye to the filth, crass, off colored ads of the superbowl because we want to fellowship or connect with the youth?

It is a mixxed message we send at best if one day we are preaching about the moral corruption of our youth on one Sunday and then playing off the ads that they see during the superbowl party.

Again, I enjoy sports, tv. , superbowl etc.... I just think if we are going to be consistant in what we preach or teach to our youth then the watching of the superbowl should not be a church sponsered event. There is just to much questionable stuff that takes place during the ads etc....
I don't even hold it against our own church leadership. The pastor is responsible for his own ministry not me. I'm responsible for my ministry, my family etc...
It was my first experience in going to a church superbowl party. It will be my last. I cannot get up and preach on holiness, sexual purity, morality etc.. and then allow the youth group to get their eyeballs full of those very things under the watchcare of the churche's ministry. If they want to expose themselves to that at home etcc... That is between them and their parents and God. I just will not contribute to it myself. It is sending a mixxed message.
Your not a liberal or a heathern if you see it different. This is just my two cents.

From my point of view, for an adult to squander the time given to him by God watching sports on television is setting a VERY poor example for young people, and is very disrespectful of God. And to use church resources for showing filthy commercials to our youth is, in my opinion, unimaginably evil.

Eph 5:15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
Eph 5:16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Col 4:5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

Each and every minute that we are alive we owe our life to Christ, and we owe it to Him to each and every minute use that time to the very best advantage to the building of His kingdom. Most certainly watching sports on television falls very short of the Christian’s responsibility. If the youth in our churches today were to witnesses in the lives of the adults in the Church what it means to be crucified with Christ and risen with Christ they would learn what it means to be a Christian.

Why are so many of the young people in our churches today fulfilling the lust of the flesh? Is it not because they are simply doing what they have been taught through the example of the adults?

Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Now watch me be persecuted for advocating doing something better with our time than watching sports on television.

Poor thing. [IMG] At least you still have that sense of humor.

Of course there's nothing wrong with doing something better with your time than watching sports on television. Watching sports in person is way better than watching sports on television. Unfortunately I couldn't get tickets, and even if I had I probably would have missed too much before I could have gotten to Detroit after Sunday evening services, so I had to settle for TV.

If anyone is going to persecute you it will most likely be for being judgemental. You have blamed the moral failures of the youth in our churches today on those who disagree with what you state is your opinion. Holding an opinion is fine, but beating others over the head with it is not. I would think that you could find better ways to redeem your time than this.

Why are you squandering your time arguing on the internet, when you could be working in a soup kitchen feeding the poor. Do you really think this is the best use of your time God has given you.

And the internet you are on, and therefor supporting by adding to it, is full of immoral content. How will you answer that you participated in the same means that allows others to view porn from the comfort of their home.

I can think of so many thinks that you could be doing that would be better, but instead you are sitting in front of your keyboard. What a waste of your time you should be ashamed.
