Why are you squandering your time arguing on the internet, when you could be working in a soup kitchen feeding the poor. Do you really think this is the best use of your time God has given you.

And the internet you are on, and therefor supporting by adding to it, is full of immoral content. How will you answer that you participated in the same means that allows others to view porn from the comfort of their home.

I can think of so many thinks that you could be doing that would be better, but instead you are sitting in front of your keyboard. What a waste of your time you should be ashamed.

Ya, God wants you to be on the internet judging other Christans for there enjoyment of football. I am sure that is His highest priority for work that needs to be done.

Maybe you are useing it as an excuse for not doing real work like helping people in need. Somebody in your city is sleeping in the streets right now hungery and cold. You are typing on the internet. Log off and go feed them.

</font>
I am not making that argument at all. I am simply saying that I knew that I would be persecuted for telling T.V. sports fans that there are more effective ways to build the kingdom of God than watching football on television.

The ensuing persecution proves that I was right about the consequence of what I said; it does not prove that what I said was true, although it is incontrovertibly true.

Oh, Jesus said you would be persecuted for telling T.V. sports fans...........

Why dont you say "Just like I said" Why dont you simply say that you predicted you would be persecuted for your opinions.

Instead you say "just like Jesus said" Implying that we are persecuting you because you are preaching Jesus' Word and we are against you and Jesus. How arrogent. I believe you are referring to John 15.

</font>
I have had a homeless family of four living in my house for free for five months. They are now confessing Christ as their savior, attending a Conservative Baptist Church every Sunday, and serving the church. The man of the house has secured a very well paying job with health insurance and other benefits; the woman of the house is going to college studying computer science. Their grown daughter who does not live with them has now begun going to church with them and had her baby dedicated to the Lord the first Sunday of this month. Their 14-year-old boy had failed a grade and was about to be sent back another grade, but I got on is case and their case about his studies and now the boy has been advanced forward to his proper grade level rather than sent back another grade. Their 16-year-old daughter is now a straight A student.

Some years ago I pastored an inner city church 60 hours a week and did not collect a salary. I am presently in negotiations to sell my home so that I can purchase a large, three story church facility in a poor part of the South so that I can pioneer a church to serve the people the other churches don’t want because they are an expensive financial liability.

If God wanted me to spend all of my time feeding the poor, that is exactly what I would do. However, God has blessed by with knowledge and wisdom about Him and the Bible and He wants me to be a good steward of those gifts here on the internet while negotiations are underway for the purchase of the Church facility.

And now I am going to be persecuted and accused of exalting myself for simply telling you the truth of the situation.

Good for you, but that does not mean that the work is done. More homeless people are cold right now.

I am not buying the God wants me to play on the internet argument. Would you buy God wanted me to watch the superbowl argument.

Nope, I am just trying to understand why somebody who post thought provoking inteligent articulate answers on other posts. Answers that I have enjoyed reading, would want to come on here and judge people for watching football. You made the judgement that Gods people should not waste any time by watching sports. I do not believe that you make perfict use of all your given time, I do not beleave that you do not waist time or take time for yourself. I am trying to point out that you do not stand up to your own high standard because there are better things to be doing then being on the internet.

It was not an accusation. I told you how I was understanding the statements you were making. If I am misunderstanding explain to me why you keep saying "Just like Jesus said."

</font>
Thank you for doing this great work. It is nice to know Christians are still willing to give their lives for the cause. That being said, please understand that this might be a matter of Christian liberty and might not be worth debating to the extent that we have.

I know I know why am I still debating.. [IMG] I'll go ahead and make this my last post. [IMG]

It is your standard, not mine. I am fine being on the internet. I am fine with you being on the internet. You made the judgement that everybody who watched the superbowl and sports in general was wasting the time God gave them. I have pointed out one of the ways you are waisting time.

I personally think rest and relaxation are benifical including watching the superbowl or useing the internet appropriatly. And right now I am at work on an overtime shift wishing I was home with my family watching football.

Generally, if it's something that someone doesn't like, then everyone who does like it, is quite obviously wasting their time. In other words, for those who don't want to be on the internet, everyone who does is wasting their time.

Craig,

I to will admit your thought processes on this post are like a 180 from most of the stuff you post.
You sound like the legalists that you so much despise or at least seem to despise?
Your positioning on this post seems like a whole different person than the guy who is all into redaction critizism of the Bible.
That is the only beef I have here about this thread. It just doesn't add up to the other craig we normally dialogue with.

I personally have to laugh when the other guys are getting on you for spending to much time on the internet. Shoot we are all on the internet when we post here. We all probably spend to much time on the net. To post on the net that a brother spends to much time on the net is really a moot point is it not?

I love football sports etc... I enjoy the internet. Yet all of us could probably utilize our time better than what we do?

I think the proof that americans love sports to much is the fact that we enjoy it so much we have to have the superbowl played in our churches convincing ourselves that it is a ministry tool when really it probably isnt. It is just us caving into the culture. We can't beat the superbowl so we might as well join the superbowl. We do this by showing it cooperately in the church complete with the sex and booze ads and all the other inuendo that goes along with the crass ads.
Craig obviously hates sports. Maybe he was always picked last at recess I don't know. Yet we are to sports crazed in this country as well.

I do not hate sports! And I freely admit that they have a great deal of value for those who do not know Christ as their Savior. For those who do know Christ, however, they are a major distraction from building the kingdom of God. Our one and only reason for doing EVERYTHING that we do should be that we believe that it is the will of God for us at that particular time.

I believe that redaction criticism of the Bible is important because it sheds light on the nature of the Bible and its message. Take for example Matt. 19:9,

19:9. "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."

Very many people from the first century onward noticed that the phrase “except for immorality” appears to contradict the words of our Savior in Mark 10:11-12 and Luke 16:18, and Paul in 1 Cor. 7:10 and, therefore, the early church ignored that phrase in its teaching and refused to grant anyone a divorce for any cause until the 4th century. My personal belief is that this phrase is either an intentional redaction or a scribal gloss from Matt. 5:32 where the context is quite different. Obviously this is not a minor detail—but of great significance in the teaching on marriage and divorce in the Bible.

Much more important than redaction criticism, however, are personal holiness and a life totally surrendered to the One who died for us.

Luke 9:23. And He was saying to them all, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
24. "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.

Personally, I come here to see the flipside of Christianity: it amazes me how people argue their opinions and demand Scripture to adhere to those same opinions.

I see mention of liberty, but the liberty given where the Spirit gives it is not licentiousness, but permissiveness to worship God.

Our lives are to be a consistent worship, taking time for relaxation, enjoyment of modest/moral activities, of which most sports activities are surrounded by immodesty and those thiongs surrounding those sports activities actually promote immorality.

Either most on this board are blind to those facts, or they think themselves to wise above their own education! [IMG]

Evil communications CORRUPT good manners.

I did NOT watch the Superbowl. I understood the elements surrounding the broadcast and decided the Lord would not be honoured in any fashion by my watching it and expecting the indwelling Holy Ghost to have to tolerate my wish to relax and pamper my flesh! :eek: [IMG] ( again!)

"To each his own"? Hmmm, seems God went to a lot of trouble to fashion the Tabernacle in the wilderness with very ornate handiwork and craftsmanship, but we as the tabernacle of God seem to want to hang our own ornaments and craft our own handiworks with the witty inventions of men by making all these allowances to keep our flesh entertained!

I love football, but the commercialism and all the ungodly things surrounding pro-football make me, and God, sick!
