So is it all right for a Christian to get a tatto? Some thoughts or Bible verses. Just wandering.

I do not think there is really anything wrong with tattoos as long as they are not honoring a non-Christian religion, are not occultic or satanic symbols, and not obscene. I think there are so many other things wrong today that we need to address; tatoos are at the bottom of my list. It is more a current fashion craze now than rebellion.

I have 5 you know when I'm around the hard nose kids. like I was, they seem to open up to me. I don't think they would if I was like some of people seem to be on this thread strait laced suit and tie. I don't cover them up with long sleevs in shame. So I have a chance to talk with them befriend them and share Jesus with them you know the kind of kids the ones some people look down on. The kind I use to be like.

I got the new Anastacia album the other day and she has a Tattoo of a Coptic Cross and the Egyptian symbol of eternal life on her back. I think that alot of these symbols are comming up in people that are searching for answers. Maybe if we took a look at the kind of tattoos people have, it might give us a clue to what there life is about and where they are at in order for us to witness to them.
Should a Christian get one? I would say not, because it is marking your body, yet we are not saved by law but by Grace in a New Covenant. My question would be for what specific reason the Brother or Sister wishes to get a tat for?

I am relatively new here and as I read the posts on this board I find a superficial use of scripture and a great deal of human reasoning. If we believe that:
All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2Ti 3:16,
the OT & the NT are equally important for us to know the mind of the Lord.

As we can see from 2Ti 3:16, that the NT does address this issue. And 2Ti 3:16 was written before the NT was established, Paul was referring to the OT. The question arises: Why did God forbid tattoos and body piercing? ( Le 19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I [am] the LORD.) The OT law was to keep the Jews from being polluted by the world and is reiterated generally in the NT:
Ro 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. 1Jo 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Keep in mind that Paul wrote to people who knew the OT.
We are not under the law now because our old man is crucified with Christ and is to be reckoned dead. But our inward man delights in the law of God (Ro 7:22 ). Jesus said,
Joh 14:15 ¶ If ye love me, keep my commandments. Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
To argue that the end justifies the means “maybe we can reach those that are heavy into tattoos” is also faulty. The only way someone gets saved is if the Holy Spirit works in their life to convict them of sin and the Father draws them. Our purpose is to be faithful to present the gospel for the gospel is the power of God unto salvation.

I just have a few questions for you. Do you eat any unclean food? Do you go to temple regularly? Do you ritually circumsize male children? Do you celebrate all the Jewish festivals?
If not, then you agree that not ALL the OT law is applicable today. Important to know? yes. Important to adhere to ceremonial and ritual purity laws? no.
I would be glad to respond to your questions.

Very good, do we get to pick and choose what laws we like and don't like the ones we want to keep and those we don't? If any man is trying to be justified by the law then he is accursed from Christ. I find people like to pick the set of rules that they like. Any of us over weight well yes but that's okay in churches excpecialy Baptist. But shame on if a person is smoking that person would be looked down by all the fat people. How about the person that can quote every scripture but has as much love as a snake you see them all the time there no diffrent then the world but there accepted by the church since many are leaders in the church.
Should we try to follow all Gods commandments sure. His commandment aren't suggestions there commands and we do are best to fight the good fight for are Lord and Savior to bring glory to His name. I just see so many people point fingers for this and that because that sin in there life may be more accepted by society/church
I read a story about Charles Spurgen you know he smoked cigars and some guy saw him and said how can a man of God dare smoke? Spurgen pocked him in his stomack and said who are you to talk your a glutten.

The Old Testament scripture generally used to ban tattoos is specifically referring to pagan markings of the body and mutilitions and has no relation to the modern idea of applying a tattoo.
Yes, I have a tattoo on my right forearm and I do not try to hide it. Under the same circumstances, I would do it again. Do I advocate getting tattoos? Not at all. Would I get one to-day? No! But just because I think they serve no purpose.
I prayed alongside some of those boys as they yielded their last breath. The same boys who challenged me as a chaplain to get a tattoo as we went to war in Korea.

Satan our enemy is a legalist and if he can gain a foothold he will. We are not to give him place -- a legal hold, Eph 4:27 Neither give place to the devil. in our lives.
Tattoos and piercings a indicative of a deeper spiritual problem rooted in rebellion and the God of the bible hates rebellion just like He hates witchcraft.
Would you tell someone that was having questions about abortion that you feel this way or that way about it. I would hope that a christian would try to disuade such a person. Most of the scripture used in the discussion on abortion is from the OT.

How in the world do you know that tatoos and piercings are a spiritual problem rooted in rebellion? How do you know that?
So your comparing abortion/murder with getting a tatoo. IMO should a christian get a tatoo probley not. Should a person get a abortion deffently not. Scripture is very clear on the abortion issue. Not so clear on the tatoo issue.

That what pagan is saiyng ".... Yes I do consider this a sacrifice, and this is what we Pagans usually mean by the word..something we give of OURSELVES be it physical like hair or art/poetry/dance to make a sacred bond with our Gods. I also consider my tattoos to be sacrifices, symbols of the path I walk and as was pointed out to me a true blood sacrifice for tattooing does cause bleeding and pain and I at least couldn't think of a better reason to get" one than as a rite of dedication.
