The local church I've been a member for about 25 years is called Lighthouse Christian Fellowship (LCF)
www.lighthousenashville.org It does have a few police officers & some who are in a professional medical situation. No MDs that I know of but several nurses or PA's (Physician Assistants). Last Sunday (May 2) was the first Sunday AM in which the entire body attended a "unified" Sunday service. For almost over a year's time span we had 2 Sunday services. We've had several functioning "Life Groups" which is just what we call Bible Study & Prayer groups. These Life Groups have been functioning for about a 20-year period. LCF was a creation in 2009 where Lighthouse Baptist Church merged with a struggling Hope Christian Fellowship, hence our new name was a merger in name, but not a departure in doctrine. LBC's Founding Pastor "Bro Al" Henson felt God was leading him in the direction of forming Compassionate Hope Foundation (CHF)
www.compassionatejhope.org whose mission was to work with the oppressed peoples of Laos & Thailand as well as in the Philippines. Hope Christian Fellowship was faced with her own set of challenges such as finding a more permanent meeting facility rather than the cafeteria of a public school in an area adjacent to the Antioch TN area (SE in Nashville TN). Meetings of both congregations seemed to be the obvious answer since "Bro Al" was still recovering from a type of Parkinson's Disease that left his body shaking if he stood on the platform for more than a few minutes. His spirit has been for years focused on SE Asia & its adjacent Philippine Islands. One of his sons and DIL have been serving there for a few years & many of LCFs younger folks have made lengthy missions trips to SE Asia where CHF has established cities of hope wherein girls aged 10-12 have been rescued from the viscous sex traffic that is a way of life for these poverty-strickened folks, some of whom are now living in newly adopted families at LCF. We are not your "usual" Baptist church with a rigid Sunday AM & PM & Wed PM schedule. Nashville is such a transient city that's far different than its former, relatively structured agrarian style life pattern of a generation or two ago. People do change, but the truths in& God's Word do not. We preach & teach & worship & serve the same God we always have. Pastor Yancey, HCFs former pastor has never wavered in his determination to reach as many people, young or old as he always has & we're looking forward to a VBS that will reach our future generation with the same John 3:16-teaching that I first listened to and received salvation back in April, 1966 when this not-quite 20 YO enlisted USAF GI stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB outside Tucson AZ did. God has blessed LCF with a new campus in which there's plenty of space to expand if we need to & Lighthouse Christian School is still there reaching & training future generations to always put God first & foremost in our lives just as it always has. Lee Greenwood, country/western singer is known for his "God Bless the USA" song that has this refrain: "And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free.." and I hope to continue to be an LCF member where "I'm proud to be a Baptist, where at least I KNOW I'm free, and I won't forget the Son of God Who gave His Life for ME!" On this past Sunday (May 9) I turned 75 YO, but on April 23 this year I turned 55 YO in Jesus. I may not know what details & circumstances God's planned for me, but this much I DO KNOW...If God's planned it, in the end it's gonna be OUT OF THIS WORLD. And if you're saved, no matter where you came from, no matter what you've gone through, & no matter what lies ahead, Jesus IS the same, yesterday, today & forevermore. He's God & He's in control. We've all in it just for the ride!! Yes, we're not promised smooth highways when all we see may be rocky & dirty roads ahead, but the end will NOT be a DEAD END!!! Amen??? AMEN!!!
