TERMINATED from the job

Well I saw it coming but I got it today. I knew the environment was not the best fit for me with all the constant cussing, filthy talk, etc.. I never confronted anyone but tried to be humble, positive, and a hard worker. However I did notice allot of sloth at this government job. Far too often it seemed like I worked myself out of work as they could not keep up with my pace. They gave no details other than "performance issues" but when I asked for details I got none. I did note that virtually everyone worked sundays but I did not as it was the Lords day. I was not required to work sundays, but many did it anyways to make more money. I worked 50 hours a week which I felt was enough.

Interesting how they would tag me with performance issues, when this one guy whom did the same job as me in between assignments would sit and watch his DVD, or play Dungeons and Dragons when he was not on a official break. He did chit chat with the people in charge on these breaks which I did not do. I was always looking for work to do, and even annoyed the administrators sometimes as I wanted a job to do. Perhaps I failed because I did not play politics too well..

Also interesting how this one guy had a temper tantrum and a big fit at someone in the office yet he did not lose his job. I also witnessed this one guy cussing the living daylights out of this guy on the phone, yet he never lost his job. Politics.....

I did not play politics with the people whom had the influence. I was not rude, I just did not conform to the environment and I got axed because of it. Actually the person whom had me sign my papers today finally admitted that the environment may not have been the best fit for me. At first she said performance, but after I mentioned some details she changed her view. Well God has another place for me...

Also I found it interesting that another guy whom worked there was also a very hard worker and knocked out the work often. He was not there the last 3 days. Maybe they axed him as well. He kept quiet and worked hard. He did not play politics nor play their game and I am guessing he got it as well.

Filing unemployment and then looking. I need to find the right fit for me. Its not about performance and skills its also about the right personality fit. If I am not the right fit they will say performance and give no details on what area of my performance was lacking.

I was highly organized, and while the other managers used to re-invent everything from commonly used letters to personnel reviews, I had everything on PC and just called up my boilerplate copies and changed dates, names and some basic information, making my job so easy!

Long story short....my one supervisor didn't like me but she knew I was her best manager so she tolerated me. After she was promoted, they brought ina guy who called me in the office and told me that he didn't believe in people with disabilities getting special treatment [me, and Reasonable Accomodations], so he pulled my RA's and made me reapply for each one. Some were in place for twelve years. He also told me that if I played ball with him he could help me go as far as I wanted in the state.

However, if I didn't play ball, I'd be stuck where I was, forever. Then he told me that this meeting was my "Shot over the bow!" of my ship [job].

We bumped heads over employees for a year. He'd witness one of my employees do or say something, then he'd demand I write them up! I told him each time, that while I was glad he saw the incident, it would be hard for me to write it up in the first person [which he demanded I do, leaving his name out of it]. However, I'd write up as reported from him to me. He'd get angry, tell me to forget it then write me up for insubordination!

This went on for nealy a year, but, when he continued to deny me Reasonable Accomodations to do my job, my doctors finally told me they were going to retire me, as I couldn't do the job without the RA"S. This man knew what he was doing.

I understand in some ways what you went through, and I would say that once you get a new and better job, you may look back and say Amen, so be it! Even my job ratings went from excellent to poor! No one needs this kind of stress.

Thank you so much for your kind encouragement brother. As much as I wanted things to be fair they are not. Its not fair to treat someone different because they do not cuss, drink, nor play ball with them. Nor is it fair to treat people differently who work hard and do a good job. Its not like the manager sat me down and went over my performance or anything. I got no feedback! Well God is in control and while I may not get paid as much for my next job, at least I will be happier.

Know the feeling. As felt wrongfully terminated from a job. As they sadly but truthfully play favorites with those. It is unfair. But they will have to answer to God on why, the managers, played favorites and unjustly fired people.

So sorry this happened to you as I can relate. Hopefully you can find a better job and that others will treat you right.

BTW, ever felt about filing a lawsuit against the company you worked for at all? Just a thought!

I only worked for a month and a half, how could I? I have given it some thought and also sending a letter to both the contractor and the company I worked for and describing the details.

A man cussing out someone on the phone like mad, yet not getting fired for that. Another employee being super lazy and he still keeping a job, and all. They had different standards for me than for themselves. Its not like they never made any mistakes when they first started working.

It sucks, but I have never met one who claimed to be fired for working too hard or being too righteous who actually was.

Very sorry to hear about your dilemma. I would encourage you, whichever department you were dismissed from, to use their appeal process, whether you have a union or association, state your case, and get your job back. There is the Merit Protection Board, and if you are a veteran, the VA can help.

I worked in the US military and various civilian departments for 36 years as a communications, electronics and networking tech. First of all, alcohol and cigarettes were not allowed within the buildings or in offices. That would get you fired quicker than anything. As far as cursing, sexual jokes, etc, there was also a solution. First of all, if one is working, then work should be going on, not idle chit chat. In my job, I could barely keep up with my tasks, and did not have time for talk or to listen to others talk. In regard to the breaks and lunch times, if I was offended by language, all I had to do is file a harassment complaint and it would stop. People will stop cursing when their jobs are threatened.

Since I retired from that series of jobs four years ago, I have worked in an adult day care. I have not noticed the things you mention, as there is not enough time for nonsense. There are about five of us that take care of 40 consumers.

My telling others about my faith was limited to breaks and lunches. I got paid to fix equipment, not spread the Gospel. In my present job, not really worrying about getting fired, I do talk about the Gospel and Christ when I take consumers out into the community as part of our job. It all boils down to common sense.

I have not worked many Sundays in my life, but did so when the job called for it. The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

So your letter would most likely only "burn your bridge"; and if any future employers contact them about you, "poison the well", so to speak.

Shake the dust off your feet, and look for your next witnessing opportunity (which is really what a job can be, isn't it?).

Thank you brother. I guess working sundays depends on the type of job one is doing. In a CNA position it would make sense to work that day. But anyways if I only worked for a month and a half how could I appeal? I mean they will claim performance, but I never got any details nor did the manager sit and talk with me nor tell me anything. I got no feedback!! I have 6 years working in the warehouse industry and have always been a reliable and proficient employee. I have letters of recommendation from former managers and all as well.

When it happened to me I immediately sought out legal counsel, filed what ended up being a federal lawsuit as they violated federal laws, and dragged them through all of the lengthy depositions and discovery which was worth it in itself. To have all of that dishonesty on record was enough for me. Ended up settling out of court, the manager responsible 'retired', and I'm sure the district manager also was punished to some extent.

It never hurts to seek legal counsel, nor hold companies accountable for breaking labor laws. If not for yourself, to help someone who comes after you.

I never spoke about my faith there nor had any evangelism chats. I only stated that I would not be able to work sundays because it was the Lords day. I tried to do my job and to work hard. When there was no work I sought work and often finished my work very fast, when many others were sitting around and chatting or relaxing.

I had no counsel nor any discussions with my manager about my "performance." Performance is very subjective and one can claim performance standards on one person whom they dislike and ignore it on another that they like. Thats how the workplace works. I have had it go in my favor in the past at places where I was liked.

Regardless I may send a letter and contact a lawyer or two as I was "under contract." However I am also filing unemployment and looking for another job.

I wonder about harassment laws. I witnessed a employee cussing out someone on the phone, and one individual got cussed out because of something someone did. Thats harassment if you ask me. I was told from the beginning that I needed to be able to handle an environment with cussing, and people getting cussed out for mistakes that they made.

These things happen on many jobs brother. In my opinion I wouldn't get litigious over what happened.

Who knows, at some point, and in keeping your witness, you may gain another opportunity with them or maybe even with one person from there. Look at the big picture, and thank God if you suffered for your faith. Remember Jesus was reviled, and did not revile back -- 1 Peter 2:23.
