Matt, I think what's happened is a difference in the press laws. IIRC, in the UK the press is severely restricted in what it can report about ongoing investigations. In the US, it isn't.

Yes, American and French intelligence agencies were given the info but then apparently leaked it to the press; as a result, our chaps have stopped sharing intel with your chaps, which isn't good for either country....

Gotcha. Yep, favor offerings are aplenty and lips flap for favors. Although I would say that is a Universal thing, ie, not exclusive to the US.

What two nations "agree" on, isn't always what two people's from two nations are always abreast of...
We have a constant riff between people's of this nation, largely because of what "appears" to be (governmentally speaking), isn't always what it "appears".

One thing we do know is; Journalists are a breed of their own. Their livelihood and fame depend on poking and blabbing, be it true or not, be it secret or not, or be it harmful (to fulfilling justice) or not.
