Now wouldn't that be a hoot?

That is based on the fact that the ratio of minorities is rapidly changing, especially Latinos. Blacks are fairly stable. Texas has many Latinos because of its geographic location. The Republicans lost the election in part because they did not recongnize this in time. However, I think they realize it now. Their message will be spread to these folks in a better manner next election. There is still time to salvage Texas. Also, if you will remember, California used to be a consistantly Republican state in Presidential elections. Nixon and Reagan came from California and carried the state every time they ran. With a better message towards the Latinos, we could regain that state. Also, remember, that Nixon and Reagan carried New York, New Jersey, Conneticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. In fact, Reagan carried Massachusettes.

They will have to modify a number of states positions and doing so will make the conservatives and tea-party folk very angry. It will be a hard hole for the GOP to dig out of.

To me, the message is governing by the Constitution and limited government. How the GOP ever equated that with the Tea Party (which has very little to do with the Constitution), global conspiracies, and nominees like they had for the Senate in Indiana and Missouri, I will never understand. The Constitution was not written in a harsh and vengeful tone, as many candidates associated with the GOP this year came across as. Reagan did not come across that way. Candidates that want to be our leaders must possess leadership qualities and common sense.

Another two generations and "white" will be a minority classification in the US. Maybe sooner. Texas will be de facto Mexican.

I was surprised to learn the Democrats carried Texas in 1960, 1964, 1968, and 1976.

Democrats then were a whole different breed from Democrats now. I voted for several democratic candidates in the early 70's to mid-80's. Hard to find one I could vote for now- and the Republicans are nearly as bad.

>"I have never understood why it is "greed" to want to keep the money you've earned, but not greed to want to take somebody else's money."

Has to do with loving God and loving your neighbor as you love your self - or was the commandment only another way of saying, "LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION?"

I don't know what Texas they are looking at. I live in a county that has went democrat for the last 50 years. However, for one of the first times ever, multiple republicans were elected to local office, and Ted Cruz, a tea party favorite, won a majority.

The fact is, most latinos, at least in Texas, share Tea Party/ Small government values. The only reason they vote democrat, is liars like crabby portray the GOP as a group of angry racist white men. EVEN THOUGH, historically, the DEMs have always been the racists.

Lincoln and freeing slaves = Republican

KKK formation = Democrats

Republicans= Black suffrage (with almost EVERY democrat voting against it...)

Democrats= for years blocked legislation that would have prevented black lynchings...

DEMOCRATS have historically been the biggest bigots in the world. Even now, they are horrific bigots. They are systematically stripping the religious rights of people, and forcing them to live under their secular progressive agenda. They block all bills that prevent funding from planned parenthood, because they know that planned parenthood kills a disproportionate number of blacks and minorities. They put a man in the white house that is half black, but which does not share the actual values of most black americans (homosexual marriage, etc.), in order to manipulate them.

The democratic party is a party of old, racist, atheist white men, controlling a bunch of younger gullible minorities...

I would suggest you read more recent history ... read up on Nixon's and Reagan's Southern Strategy. The GOP Southern Strategy may be in the early stages of dying, and that is a good thing for the country as a whole. I do not know how old you are, but I grew up and have lived in the South. As the GOP implemented their Southern Strategy I did not like what I saw and I slowly changed from being a GOP supporter to, for the most part, a Democratic supporter. I had not changed, but the GOP had changed and not for the better.

Richard Nixon was the first to implement the Southern Strategy. The idea was to get whites to vote Republican by appealing to their racial impulses. Lyndon Johnson had predicted that the traditionally Democratic South would go Republican after he signed the Voting Rights Act, and that's what happened.

George Wallace, the arch-segregationist from Alabama, was key to the strategy's birth. Wallace, who ran for president in 1968 on a third-party ticket, gathered 13 percent of the vote. But Nixon was still able to win half the Southern states, while Wallace won the other half (except Texas).

Over the years, the Southern Strategy evolved. In 1980, Ronald Reagan announced that he was running for president in Philadelphia, Miss., the same city where three civil rights workers had been murdered in 1964 during Freedom Summer. Reagan spoke about states' rights in his speech. The racial message was obvious.

In 1988, George H.W. Bush surged ahead of Michael Dukakis by using the notorious Willie Horton ad. The campaign spot played to white fears by using the release of a black man on parole from prison.

In April 2010, then-Republican Party chairman, Michael Steele, an African-American, acknowledged that the party had pursued the Southern Strategy for 40 years. In this latest presidential election, the strategy was present again.

During the GOP primaries, candidate Newt Gingrich rarely passed up an opportunity to refer to Obama as the "food stamp" president. Mitt Romney even managed to sneak in two references to food stamps during one of the presidential debates - actually, the one on foreign policy.

In August at a campaign rally, Romney joked to an audience there that "no one ever asked me for my birth certificate." That was a crass reference to the unfounded controversy surrounding Obama's birthplace.

John Sununu, an adviser to the Romney campaign, commented that Obama needed to "learn how to be an American." In the end, the country rejected these low appeals, just as the vast majority of Americans are rejecting the new secessionists who have surfaced after the election.

What a bunch of stupid, left wing, goofball propaganda. The things the republicans say today (I emphasize "say"), are the same things they said 50 years ago. They have always been small government, conservative, anti-tax, and decidedly the NON BIGOT party. Even today. The democrats are unbelievable bigots.

I grew up in south Texas. The most ungodly, racist, and hateful people I have met, have all been democrats, including members of my own family. I watched, in the 80's the KKK rallying for the democrats firsthand, and carrying anti-Reagan signs. So please, don't try to bring your silly revisionist history in here...

You just showed your true ignorance. That has never been the truth about the GOP. Ever. And unless you used to be a conservative your little story here cannot be true.

Thanks, you helped me prove my point. Fifty years ago, 1962, was the era when the GOP's Southern Strategy was being formulated. Harry Dent was the architect of the strategy. Thurmond changed from being a Democrat to being a Republican and four years later helped hold the South for Nixon. Dent helped Nixon formulate the Southern Strategy which Nixon used in his first successful campaign for the presidency. The Southern Strategy is well documented across the political spectrum.

These are the facts and are historically sound. Prove them wrong. You posted nothing to support your comment. How about backing up your hateful words with facts.

Yes, and they all became Republicans after Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1965.

I was a registered Republican for many more years than I have been a registered Democrat. I switched as I could not stomach, nor as a Christian, not as a human, not as a thinking person, not as a person attempting to live my life by the Golden Rule, continue to follow the Republicans in their movement of causing friction between the races and in their movement away from compassionate conservatism to greedy self serving demagoguery. They played for the white vote and it served them well for many years. Finally this year it caught up with them and now they are scrambling, trying to find a way out of the brier patch they placed themselves in ... beginning 50 or so years ago.

Now you can pant, shout, cry, scream and call names. That only shows you have no facts on which to place your stance.

Your forget Lee Atwater's infamous comments about the Republican Southern Strategy. I assume you do remember who Lee Atwater was?

In case you forgot,
Harvey LeRoy "Lee" Atwater ((1951-02-27)February 27, 1951 – March 29, 1991(1991-03-29)) was an American political consultant and strategist to the Republican Party. He was an advisor of U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush and chairman of the Republican National Committee.

The Nation magazine released the audio of the full interview.[7] James Carter IV, grandson of former president Jimmy Carter, had asked and been granted access to these tapes by the widow of the recently deceased interviewer, Mr. Lamis. Atwater talked about the Republican Southern Strategy and Ronald Reagan's version of it:

Atwater: As to the whole Southern strategy that Harry S. Dent, Sr. and others put together in 1968, opposition to the Voting Rights Act would have been a central part of keeping the South. Now [the new Southern Strategy of Ronald Reagan] doesn't have to do that. All you have to do to keep the South is for Reagan to run in place on the issues he's campaigned on since 1964 and that's fiscal conservatism, balancing the budget, cut taxes, you know, the whole cluster.

Questioner: But the fact is, isn't it, that Reagan does get to the Wallace voter and to the racist side of the Wallace voter by doing away with legal services, by cutting down on food stamps?

Atwater: You start out in 1954 by saying, "Nigger, nigger, nigger." By 1968 you can't say "nigger" — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me — because obviously sitting around saying, "We want to cut this," is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "Nigger, nigger."[8][9]

from "http://www.texastribune.org/texas-counties-and-demographics/census/on-the-records-majority-texas-minority-races/

"More than half of the 2011 Texas population, 55.2 percent, was of a race other than non-Hispanic white, according to demographic data released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau. That makes Texas one of five "minority-majority" states in the country. The release of new population estimates reveals that trend will continue to spread nationally, as 50.1 percent of babies younger than one in 2011 were a minority race."
