Welcome to the group. One thing that surprised me when I first joined is the diversity of doctrinal views within the Baptist denomination. BB is an interesting place. Don't let the curmudgeons intimidate you.

Actually, there are two basic definitions for denomination.
1) a group with a hierarchy --- this definitely does NOT apply to baptists
2) any group with similar beliefs - So with this definition even Independent Baptists are a denomination
