The Air Force can do a great job - but it takes ground troops to complete the mission.

They need ground troops to secure 2-3 small islands at the entrance to the strait (north side), for one thing. The Marines will probably do that. Anybody’s guess what the 82nd’s primary mission will be.

If I had to guess the 82nd would do what they are specifically trained for, like taking and holding the oil fields if that becomes an objective.

Nothing wrong with his moderating, I think he has a bone to pick.
He just asked if you served in the military. I don’t think it was personal.

He gave a link about the size of military units, which supports what he said. Maybe things have changed since I was at the 101st, but a Battalion had about 500 soldiers. Three Battalions made up a Brigade (about 1500 soldiers)

A Division had several infantry Brigades, as well as artillery, helicopter support (both transport and attack) as well as logistic support.

I suspect (without any direct knowledge), that a Brigade has been sent with supporting companies (logistics and air support), totaling about 3,000.

Salty does a great job moderating.

Thanks for serving

Peace to you

Time to re-activate the 2nd Armored Division (with a CG like Patton) and 8th Infantry Divisions (Crazy 8th)

The 8th is also known as "These are my credentials" Brigadier General Charles Canham, the 8th Infantry Division’s assistant division commander received his surrender in Ramcke’s command bunker. The German told Canham, ‘I am to surrender to you. I want to see your credentials.’ Click here to understand:

It's a different story with the 1st brigade quick response combat team in the 82nd.

That brigade is on standby for rapid deployment at anytime and anywhere in the world.

It's 4000-5000 trained paratroopers that makeup several battalions with elements of the 173rd Airborne.

The initial reports in the OP were 1500 from this 1st brigade were called up for rapid deployment.

That is considered a reinforced battalion with light to medium artillery, HQ/staff, etc. in the structure of this brigade.

They don't pull from the rapid deployment according to battalions, but what they need to get the job done.

Salty knows very well I've stated my military service in the 82nd.

And he was accusing me of a liar in his smart remarks.

But ask me if I care what Salty has to say!
