The Apocrypha

Is there any value in reading the Apocrypha? And why or why not?
Certainly from an academic standpoint I would say yes. These documents give us a better insight in the culture and historical context of the time. They inform us as to what those authors believed the important issues and events of their time were. These texts provide a matrix for their understanding of the Scriptures just as the DDS did for Qumran community. There is also the linguistic impact these texts have had upon lexical studies, the understanding of idioms, and grammar. The more literature that is available the better our understanding of the languages (i.e. Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek).

the reformers would agree with you, as though not to be used for doctrines or practices, as not inspired, still useful as historical documents.
