Beside the obvious reaction I knew I'd get, the reason I started this thread is because I had on Abbey Road For the first time in years, and it's still astonishing to see how much is packed into the back half of that album. We are talking pure auditory ambrosia. The melodies, the variety of instrumentation and sounds, the pacing - those guys were on a whole other level.

Abbey Road was one of the first albums I ever owned. One of my fifth grade teachers gave it to me as a reward for doing well in her class.

It's still a classic.

God is still delivering and getting it out of my heart.Take a look at all the big figures of country/rock/blues/jazz,and you will find endless tragic stories.Dont let them be your gods.
But you'll also find great stories of hope and of God's goodness.
This reminded me of something my great grandfather was fond of saying...and I quote: Son, you can find a good buscuit in a garbage pale...but that aint' the place to look for one!"

Aslanspal;
Whatever. "Funeral Dirge." Puleeze. If that is the best you can do, then obviously your position is bankrupt.

BTW; this is my favorite group;
Re 20:4
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

What about all the gospel groups selling Gods word? They are equal to some of the rock stars with the way they live and act!

What do you mean by selling God's word? Are they selling Bibles or cd's of their songs? A cd of songs does not equal God's word. And if it is Bibles, so what? I buy Bibles at Barnes and Nobles even though it is a secular company that may have employees whose lifestyle I disagree with.

So, if we do not agree with your opinion, we are not judging the music on its own merit.
So far, nobody on your side has judged the music on it's own merits.

You've judged it because you didn't like the album cover. You've judged it because you didn't like a John Lennon quote that was taken out of context. You've judged it because you don't like the changes in societal norms that happened around the same time.

But in four pages, now, I haven't seen one of you discuss the music, itself.

You, also, need to respect our opinions and not tell us we are wrong for saying we do not like the Beatles music.
I don't think anyone has told you you were wrong because you don't like their music.

I think he, as am I, is concerned that you're judging the music on everything but the music.
</font>[/QUOTE]Here, we have a clear case of lumping everybody on one side together. I have already stated that music in and of itself is not sinful, and I have made absolutely no reference to anybodies lifestyle. I simply do not like the music and do not think they are the greatest.

TC:these people have always claimed they are spreading the gospel through their music, and call it a music ministry. Then they pat each other on the back and give each other awards at awards shows, just like the world. Then they give concerts and go on tour charging people for tickets and sell t-shirts and books.I dont believe Jesus charged $10.50 each at the sermon on the mount,I believe He fed them.

If your grandfather thought that God working in people's lives is "garbage", then that says a lot more about him than it does about them.

Why is it that if a musician leads a bad lifestyle, that proves that rock music is bad but, if a musician lives a clean, honorable lifestyle, it's irrelevant?

What about those of us who have never done drugs, don't worship Satan, aren't sexually promiscuous, etc?

When are you guys going to acknowledge that not all rock and roll musicians are the Devil's minions?

I was once banned from onlinebaptist.com because I demonstrated, using the arists' own liner notes, that many of the top Southern Gospel acts use the same backing musicians as the "evil" country, rock and pop artists these people are always whining about.

Now playing: Michael Nesmith - “From a Radio Engine to the Photon Wing”

I think we can all agree that their musical
process was excellent.

surely Mr. 1611 you liked Amy Grants "Lead Me On"

or "Godspell" or the Cox family...come on

something ...anything to reassure me you did

not come from the 17th century.

Someone mentioned "Yes" great electronic and
percussions arrangements.

Chicago great use of brass in their arrangements
"Only the Beginning" is a great song to get
pumped up on.

Emylou Harris and Ricky Skaggs doing "Wayfaring
Stranger" voice and mandolin excellent.

Bruce Cockburn great guitar player

"Night Train"

Thank God we have freedom to make great music
in this country and that we don't live in Iran
to listen to 17th century dirges.

I would imagine not, but that doesn't negate the fact that you guys are being inconsistent with the way you are judging the lifestyles of rock musicians.

To be fair;
I like "Because He lives", and "He Touched Me."
I think it was the Gaithers who wrote them.
But that should give you a "taste" of my "taste".

And Aslanspal?
Fanny Crosby did not live in the 17th century. Neither did Wesley. Or most of the hymnwriters' songs that we sing today for that matter. And NONE of them lived in Iran. But you are welcome to move there.
And a "dirge (as you put it) is a slow mournful lamentation intended to be played for a funeral. So.. you are WAY off base with your quip about the classic hymns of the church.

"And can it be, that I should gain,
And interest in the Saviour's blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain,
For me that Him to death pursued"

Amazing love! How can it be?
That Thou my God shouldest die for me?

Yep! Sure sounds like a furneral dirge to me. Maybe you see it as such, but for me it is a song of LIFE!

"I stand amazed in the presence,
of Jesus the Nazarene.
And wonder how He could love me,
a sinner condemned unclean.

How marvelous! How wonderful!
And my song shall ever be!
How marvelous! How wonderful!
Is my Saviours love for me!"

Yep. Dat dere's anudder death song.

I give up. You got me. The Beatles are WAY better!

1) If it is possible for music to be sinful, it is up to you music bashers to prove so from Scripture.

2) If a melody can be sinful, it will be sinful regardless of the lifestyle of the composer.

3) The Beatles are the greatest rock n' roll band in history ;)

No. They had long hair. Therefore, their music is bad.

surely Mr. 1611 you liked Amy Grants "Lead Me On"

No. She wears a leopard skin jacket on the cover. Therefore, the music is no good.

or "Godspell" or the Cox family...come on
No. "Godspell" used the image of Jesus and His disciples as hippies to tell present the Gospel in a relevant way to young people. Therefore, the music cannot be good.

The Cox Family routinely use mandolins.

Mandolin is also the name of an instrument used in restaurant kitchens. Some restaurants serve alcohol. Therefore, their music is terrible.

Chicago great use of brass in their arrangements "Only the Beginning" is a great song to get pumped up on.
Absolutely not! The city of Chicago was notoriously corrupt under Mayor Richard J. Daly.

The band's trumpet player is also the brother of "Simpsons" voice actor, Hank Azaria.

Therefore, we should not listen to their music.

Emylou Harris and Ricky Skaggs doing "Wayfaring Stranger" voice and mandolin excellent.
You mean the same EmmyLou Harris who lived in sin with Gram Parsons until his death of a drug overdose?

Bruce Cockburn great guitar player
No. He includes a cover of Monty Python's "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" in his live shows.

And then, there's always the matter of his last name.

Wow! we actually got a playlist from av1611jim

"The Funeral Dirge 5" was a gig with a wink
because we did not know where you stood musically.
Was my intent to to get you to let on what you
liked ..instead of the drip ..drip..drip of
condemnation.

Now that you have one welcome to the human race.

for the record never said anything about the classic hymms of the church...and for the record
I said I was thankful we live in a free society
that gives us the ability to arrange great music
on a monumental scale. In Iran a theocracy they
are very limited in what they can do musically.

sincerely
Aslanspal!
