Someone in church asked this question the other week. She has a intellectual friend and wanted book recommendations. She mentioned the book "The evidence that demands a verdict" being above the reading and comprehension abilities of her friend, so that book wont be used. Which one is the best?

I Dont have enough faith to be an atheist-Norm Geisler
The Reason why?
When Skeptics Ask-Norm Geisler
Jesus above other Gods-Ravi Zacharias
Lee Strobel Books

Or some other book or author.

What? Really?
This is, of course, a hasty judgement, not knowing the person, but in my estimation....this sounds incredibly like the "Could God create a rock so heavy he can't lift it"/ "But Bill Maher says" "internet Atheist" kind of skeptic. This kind does not need to be humored. It puffs up their pride...I am the biggest believer in apologetics there is, but this kind of person, (my rush to judgement) needs the fear of God to crush pseudo-intellectual arrogance more than they need reasoned apologetics. This is a job for John the Baptist...not Thomas Aquinas

Would also add Evidence that demands a verdict, and more evidence that demands a verdict, both by Josh Mcdowell .

Sounds like someone needs a friend, not a book.

I've run into people like this before, they have "strong intellectual objections" to theism/Christianity (its really just Christianity) and when we talk with them about the the deeply intellectual nature of belief they can't handle the discussion.

In reality their unbelief is often because they haven't encountered honest belief...or are just being contrarian.

Most likely, they havent encountered the Holy Spirit.

Exactly my friend. I was witnessing to someone today and when offered he refused to dialogue. These people come at the Bible with a agenda and are close minded to looking at the evidences. I find it odd that many of them refer to me as being bigoted and dogmatic.

Exactly.. This is the point were I side with the Calvinist and his full dependence on the Holy Spirit and the scripture to convict people and not on his argument or the evidences, etc..

Steph told me that she had a hard time understanding that book and she wont give it to her friend. I must agree as I also had a hard time with that one. Tim Keller i an easier to understand writer and doe snot write for the graduate student like Josh does.

I just read a short novella titled "Dinner with a Perfect Stranger". It's about a 30 something year old guy that gets an invitation to dinner with Jesus of Nazareth. At first the guy isn't going to go to the dinner figuring his co-workers set him up to it, but eventually he's so curious he has to go.

The book is not heavily intellectual, in fact it's a fictional device that allows the author to have the main character get answers from Jesus about common questions that unbelievers ask. At about 100 pages took me a bit over an hour to read, but the effect was profound. It would serve as an introductory outline that hits the highlights of apologetics.
