Well, I'm a bit disappointed in some of the details left out here and there and some of the details that were put in that are not written in the scripture.

For instance, the Sodom account had a few problems. It dipicted the men of the city wanting to kill the angels staying at Lot's house. They were not there to kill them but rather wanted to rape them. In the scripture, Lot offered the men his daughters if they would let God's angels alone, but the men insisted on wanting the angels (whom they thought were just regular men). Also, there wasn't any sword fight between the angels and the men of the city, fighting their way out. The angels actually walked out in the morning with Lot and his family.

One other scene, when Moses killed the Egyptian, according to scripture it says that it was Moses who buried the man in the sand. When this got back to Pharaoh, he sought after Moses, but Moses had fled into the wilderness. Moses was not ordered to leave or taken before Pharaoh and let go.

Just a couple that I thought should have been written more acurately. I know there is some liberty in film writing, but they should not get such clear facts twisted. They are suppose to be delivering the word of God here.

I didn't have much hope in the show knowing that TD Jakes and Joel Osteen were the "experts" that they had to check the Biblical accuracy for the show. They also had Rick Warren, 2 Catholic bishops and a woman pastor as well. Interestingly enough, in the information about the consultants, they point out about the support of Barak Obama in many of them. Kind of puts an obvious bent on the whole thing. Add in that Roma Downey had Della Reese perform her wedding - Reese is a new thought practitioner - and all bets are off.

Yeah, me too. I wasn't able to watch the entire thing (since I had to help put the kids to bed), but I had the same thoughts about it as you.

I jumped ship right off when i saw the Ark leaking and Noah ran over and plugged up a leak in the side of the wall. God gave Noah instructions on how to build the Ark. The Ark was their salvation naturally as Christ is my salvation spiritually. My salvation, Christ has no holes or does not leak. Hollywoods Ark is full of holes and even though man is inside the Hollywood Ark he is not safe, he still has to plug up the holes with his works.

I read Genesis 19 today and honestly, they got nothing right in the story of the destruction of Sodom.

Yeah the Sodom scene was pretty bad. Before it came on i said to my wife, 'oh, they are doing a Sodom scene, the homosexuals are not going to like this'. And then they didn't touch it at all, they made the city's men murderers instead of sexual perverts, just out looking to kill someone.

I'm surprised they didn't go for the "inhospitable" bent!

After the Sodom avoidance of facts, I don't have a huge expectation that the full gospel message will be presented. To say, as the bible does, that Jesus Christ is the only way to God will be very offensive to millions of folks, even to some who call themselves Christian.

Good point

salzer...I remember thinking to myself that the Ark that Noah built (according to God's instructions) would not have been leaky...and I said that to my wife at the time. I further appreciate your "expansion" on the spiritual implications of that imagery. To be saved by grace by Christ has no "holes" or "leaks" in it......AMEN to that!

It was entertaining but was inaccurate as the History Channel normally is. At least they didn't trot out the Jesus Seminar fellows!

The Bottom Line...In My Opinion

The following is a repost of my post in a thread about this same subject up in the "baptist only" section of the board:

The Bottom Line....!
In my opinion...the bottom line about this mini-series is the obvious truth that the producers of this series are taking the same kind of liberties with the Biblical text that we ALWAYS see out of anything that originates as a production of Helly....ooops...Hollywood. It will never be "Holy"wood! They have done what is always done in that corrupt industry when handling the Bible. They add to, take away from or just plain change the Inspired Biblical narrative to suit their own desire to tell the story according to their own wishes. Whatever it takes to"appeal" to the largest possible audience and keep the advertisers happy. Bottom line...IT HAS TO PAY$$$$$. Even though they have stated that they wish to honor the true historical aspects of the Bible and its miracles, they simply can't resist the temptation to exercise "artistic license"(and "resist" they didn't!)
That said, I will still watch each installment just because I am interested in the subject matter. I do think it gives us an opportunity to point out its flaws (or it's successes) and be able to tell folks we talk to about the actual truths of the Bible. Maybe if we do that some might see that it really is ONLY the real Bible they can place their confidence in. I was hopeful that they would "get it right" (or at least more right than they apparently have) but I did not have terribly high expectations that they would going into it. As Christians...we have an obligation to our Lord to be true to His Word....period!

Amen! My wife asked me 'why are you watching it, if you are just going to pick it apart'. I said I will be fair and when they r wrong I will say and when they are right I will say. I have' lost' friends watching this and this gives me opportunity to talk about the Bible with them and help point them to the truth. They understand (as long as I tell them to remember) that this is holywood and they have a record of changing facts to suit their interest. Even if they do not give the full gospel, I will be able to fill in the blanks for them with scripture.

You didn't expect the homosexuals who made it to trash them selves did you? PBS where I live plays some type of lying trash about Christians all the time. They are godless people trying to act as if they know what they are talking about.

I have not seen the actual programs. I did see some previews. One of them showed the birth of Jesus. The scene shows wise men at the birth. This is not historically correct. While it is true the Magi came to give gifts to Jesus, He was not in a manger but in a house. This was several months later. Herod had all boys two years old and under killed.

The History Channel is more entertainment than history. It need not be accurate. Nominal Christianity will probably give such things great reviews.

Even so, come Lord Jesus.

Nominal Christianity is already weighing in. Rick Warren is using it for his Saddleback PD sermons. Of course this is no surprise.
