That text in no way says Jesus words were metaphorical. It says the human wisdom profits nothing , and only spiritual faith would believe.
The text DOES NOT say “human wisdom profits nothing” Jesus said the “flesh” profits nothing and then immediately contrast “flesh” with “spirit” and life.

If you replace the words of our Lord Jesus with other words to support your doctrine, you are walking down the path of a long list heretics.

peace to you

Jesus said His words were spirit and life. Whatever else “spirit and life” may mean, it does not mean literal flesh and blood

At least Luther maintained there was a “spiritual” presence of flesh and blood, not literally. I disagree with Luther, but he is closer to the text than Catholic doctrine.

peace to you

Jesus words were spirit and life which meant they could only be believed by Faith.

Scripture clearly teaches that the things of the Spirit can not be received by the natural man, the flesh. They are foolishness to him. You know the context but you are ignoring it.

Jesus teaching in John 6 was foolishness to many, and they walked away from Him.

Nor does “ Spirit and life “ mean metaphorical. This is just an interpretation you put on it.

Correct, those that left took His words literally, not understanding His words were not to be taken literally, but were “spirit and life”.

Thank you for supporting my understanding of the passsge.

Where else in scripture does something that is “ spirit “ mean metaphorical, nothing.
For the record, I don’t think I said “metaphorical”,

Where else in scripture does “spirit” refer to flesh and blood? Nowhere.

No, Jesus meant it literally, over and over again, they knew Jesus was speaking literally only they could not believe it.

Things of the spirit can not be believed by natural men, only men of faith could believe Jesus literal words, like Peter.

“ Lord, to whom shall we go, you have the Words of everlasting life “

Nothing hard to believe if Jesus was talking metaphorically.

You are kidding yourself. You must confront Vader here dude.

“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.“

“The Spirit gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.“

You see the context.

Jesus literal words were only going to be believed spiritually by Faith, which is what Peter did.

Others did not believe, the things of Spirit can not be discerned by the natural man. It was foolishness to them, or what some call “silly”.

First, I am not a “dude”.

Second, I see the context just fine and I disagree when your interpretation.

Please answer this question….

Why did the Apostle Paul not mention literal flesh and blood when he gave instructions concerning the Lord’s Supper? He clearly refers to it as a solemn memorial that proclaims Christ’s death until He comes again.

Paul got his information about the Supper from Jesus Himself. Why did Jesus not mention the bread and wine literally becoming flesh and blood when He instructed Paul?

First, I am not a “dude”.

My humble apologies for misgendering you. Sincerely.

Second, I see the context just fine and I disagree when your interpretation.

Then you see the two different minds that hear Jesus words in John 6. The mind of the flesh and the mind of the spirit.

“ My Flesh is real food and my Blood is real drink “

“ Unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of man and drink His Blood, you have no life in you “

“ He who eats me, will live because of me. “

“ Does this offend you ? “ yes, it offends all human sensibilities, even today.

“ How can this man give us his flesh to eat? “

It’s a hard teaching, who can even listen to it. They could not believe Jesus words, because their minds were governed by the flesh. And they walked away from Jesus at that point.

Jesus turns to His chosen 12 and asks if they will also leave Him, that’s how serious a moment this is.

Peter speaking for the rest does not say he understands metaphorically , he says WE BELIEVE.

“Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that You are the Holy One of God.”

Jesus did not require them to understand, what He required of them was to believe in Faith, by the Spirit.

Paul mentions that to receive the Body and Blood unworthily, is to be guilty of the Body and Blood of Christ.
In context of the day and culture, to be guilty of someone’s body and blood, is to be guilty of murder.
It is a horrific sacrilege that could only be, if indeed the Eucharist is Christ’s Body and Blood.

We see Judas commit this sacrilege at the Last Supper, and satan entered him.

Which is the opposite of what is supposed to happen.

“ He who eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood, has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the Last day. “

You didn’t “misgender” me. Oh good grief!. Look up the definition of “dude”. I am not a dude. A “dude” is some fancy fancy rich guy running around in silk shirts and silk breeches playing polo.

Thank you for the conversation. We are not going to convince each other.

peace to you

My apologies for remisgendering you, and possibly insulting you accidentally.

Forgive me bro. Looked up and found a different definition of the term.

Brother, please stop apologizing for “misgendering”. I think that’s a made up word anyway. When you get older, they change the definitions or words on you.

“Dude” use to refer to fancy dancey men of a high status in society.

I haven’t been offended.

peace to you

I wrote what is WRITTEN in the Word of GOD. The Word is GOD. JESUS said to the Devil: "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every WORD that proceedeth out of the MOUTH of GOD". For me what matters and prevails is the Word of GOD. The Word is GOD, and proceedeth out of the MOUTH of GOD.

God bless

Dear brother, I am a disciple of JESUS, I'm a Christian since my birth. My parents already were believers In the Lord JESUS Christ when I was born. What the Word of GOD says to all of us is that: "Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils(devils? the betrayers?-John 6:70): ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. So I would never say his words were of the Holy Spirit.

Revelation 9: 20-21

20 The men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils(like the Beast of sea -Vicarivs filii dei - et caterva, filii of Devil) and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

Revelation 19:19-21
19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make WAR against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

20 And the Beast was taken, and with him the false prophet(Revelation 13:11-18) that wrought miracles before him(before the Beast of sea), with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the Beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

21 And the remnant were slain with the Sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

Revelation 21:8
8 But the fearful(the COWARDS), and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

John 8:47
JESUS said: He that is of God heareth God's words: ...
John 3:31
31...He that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth:he that cometh from heaven is above all

May our Lord GOD bless us, and keep us, and give us His protection
Amen
