Faith comes from hearing the gospel.Truth is the sole BASIS (substance, hope) of faith but is not the sole reason for the existence or origin of faith. Man does not have the ability to believe the truth of the gospel (Jn. 6:44) and so the origin of faith is by divine revelation (2 Cor. 4:6). However, that divine revelation is the substance of true saving faith and so faith and truth are inseparable but both have their origin with God as the "author and finisher" of faith.
Certainly, but the law was regarded as a moral basis to obtain eternal life. Moreover, works refer to the human response to God's law which is both an internal and external response or else one must define sin (violation of the law) as merely external in nature as did the Pharisees.Works is a reference to OT law and its abuses
No, then Paul could not say that the gospel did not come "in word only" BUT "in power" (1 thes. 1:5). Paul is merely stating the gospel when preached is what God empowers to save and thus in that sense it is the power of God.Actually the word of God is the power of Salvation.
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
No, the the Greek term translated "word" here is rhema, not logos. Rhema MAY refer to the "word of command" and so it does here as illustrated by Paul in 2 Cor. 4:6 in the very first phrase of this verse.Faith comes from hearing the gospel.
Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
You have to deny the plain teaching of the word of God to believe anything else.
