We often wonder why God allows certain trials and tribulations to pass our way.

The other day, the Hydro people were working on poles that had broken in a prior ice storm. It was still wet and very dangerous. We know that water and electricity do not go well together. Still, these poles had to be replaced.

The street was wet; the new poles were green and wet. Overhead was a high voltage line. Whilst power was shut off to the line being repaired, the main power line, high voltage, was still in place. A mistake had been made by not shutting down the whole power system whilst they replaced the pole, but this hadn't been noticed.
(that part of the story is true. The rest I made up.)

They were hoisting the new pole up between the wires, when one worker reached out to grasp the end of the pole to guide it into the hole. Another worker realized the high wire was alive, and if that pole had touched that wire the worker who was to grasp the pole wold have been electrocuted.

The other worker dived at the man and knocked him down to the ground. The man was angry and ready to enter into fisticuffs with the worker who knocked him down.

The second man pointed to the wire and the sparking. At this point the man knocked down realizd that the other worker had saved his life, by knocking him down in the wet, muddy, sloppy street!

Sometimes God sees us, His children, headed toward great danger in our lives. We are sometimes wayward and disobedient. Then, God in His mercy, knocks us down. He sends chastening in the form of sorrow or trouble upon us in order to halt us in our ways.

Next time trouble comes your way, think of it in God's loving eyes. He is leading us into better fields, and we are such a stubborn lot, it is the only way we might understand. The Lord IS our Shepherd....He will guide us, His sheep, into green pastures that we shall not want.

Cheers,

Jim

The snow was falling. A young man was on his way to church, but stopped off in a little chapel along the way. Few people wre there because of the heavy snow. The regular pastor did not make it, so another man stood in the pulpit and began to speak.

He quoted: "Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth." He said, "My dear friends, it's no trouble to look. You don't have to lift your foot or finger. You just look. You do not look at yourselves. You look at the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the one who says, Look unto Me. Do you not see Him hanging on the cross and dying for you?"

When he had spoke for about ten minutes, he pointed his finger at the young man who had stumbled into the chapel. "Young man," he said, "you look very miserable. You will always be miserable unless you obey my text. But, if you will look, in faith, to the Lord Jesus, this minute you will be saved.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon obeyed the invitation. He looked to Jesus and was saved. Afterwards, Spurgeon said, "I looked at Him, and He looked at me, and we became one forever."

We never know what little things we say may turn a soul around one way or t'other. There was a lumber executive in Quebec who never came to church. His wife and daughter came regularly. I met this man in the local shop one day and asked him why he never came to church? He answered, "Too many hypocrites! I said to him, "There is always room for one more." Went our ways. He started coming to church and before summer was out, came to the Lord.

We never know what little word may bring a soul to Christ.

Cheers,

Jim

(True story)

The keeper of a drawbridge received orders to have the bridge closed for a fast express train which was soon to pass over the bridge. A tug boat came up the river, and whistled for the bridge to be opened. The keeper thought he had plenty of time and so he opened the draw bridge. He disobeyed orders. Suddenly he heard the train whistle its approach to the bridge. The keeper desperately tried to lower th bridge, but it was too late. The train plunged into the river.

Hundreds of lives were lost because of he keeper's disobedience. The keeper went insane. IN a padded cell, daily he muttered, "If I only had!". If only he had obeyed, hundreds of lives would have been spared and his own life would not continue in ruin.

This news story reminded me of 1 Samuel 15:22. The story of Samuel and Saul. Saul was rejected for being king because of disobedience.

Samuel wrote: "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as n obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better........." 1 Sam 15:22.

How many times have we known better, yet we have chosen to disobey and go our own way?

Why did Saul disobey? He disobeyed because he "feared the people." He feared the people, but was prepared to reject the word of the Lord (verse 23)....He sinned and transgressed..verse 24, because he feared the people.

We must learn to stand tall in the name of the Lord when His word is clear to us what we should do. I am not talking about being obstinate in our own ways, but when the way of the Lord is clear. His word has spoken, then we are to obey.

Cheers,

Jim

Thank you Jim.

It can be so hard for us to stand apart and stay focussed on God's Word. His Word must come first, no matter what.

My State

Hello again to everyone. I Just got back and was reading Jim's posts.
Because of the job loss, we have lost our home and are forced to live in our travel trailer that we had bought some time ago. At lease we have that, I know how much worse off many others out there are I do not cease to thank God for His loving care. Gods' word promises: "But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Php 4:19)
Thanks to discovering wireless internet, we are back online.
I do enjoy posting here, but I am not sure how much I can devote to it.

I will not be posting anymore devotionals. It appears that some Americans think I am a hypocrite, and I wouldn't want to lead anyone astray.

I am just going to enjoy my peace and quiet.

Cheers,

Jim
