Obama has come out with a plan to make it mandatory for salaried workers making less than $50,000 a year to get paid overtime. The current threshold is $23,500.
This means that Obama wants to give 5 million workers a raise with the waving of the government's magic wand.
The Republican candidates are desperately trying to make wage stagnation an issue this election cycle. By raising the minimum wage and (if it is passed) signing a law making mandatory overtime pay for salaried workers, he seems to be taking preemptive steps to make sure the Republicans fail at making this an issue.
Of course anyone with the economic knowledge of a gnat realizes this plan will inevitably lead to a reduction in salaried workers' other job benefits and likely would lead to hiring of less people.
