I have no disagreement with your statement as far as it goes. My disagreement is that the local congregation is the ONLY set that qualifies for "church." You are flatly denying that God has a "church" that is universal in nature, made up of all the local congregations (individuals, actually) who are gathered together to fulfill His divine prophecy that "I will build my church and the gates of hades (hell) will not prevail against it."
First, I am not a secessionist, as you previously alleged.
Second, the Greek word for "church" is "ekklesia" which means "assembly."
I do not deny any Biblical teaching in the Word of God. But to assert a belief in an assembly that is impossible to assemble seems to be an absurd and illogical belief. That is the one that is not Biblical. It cannot be supported on a Biblical basis; it is only a traditional doctrine, much like the assumption of Mary is tradition for the RCC. Where in the Bible do you get it from.
Third, you have given me Scripture. But I have explained each and every one of them to you in the light of their context.
Fourth, I have given many solid arguments, many of which have gone unanswered or just plain ignored. One is the above example--an unassembled assembly??
Or, where does this universal assembly meet?
Who is its pastor? Who are the deacons? Who takes up the offering?
How and when is the Lord's Supper conducted? Please answer.
What is the real function of this so-called universal church?
Isn't what you really mean called the family of God, the Kingdom, or even the bride of Christ? Why are you hung up on a word that can only be used in a local sense--assembly?
I am not denying any doctrine in the Bible; but I find that your ecclessiology is way off base. And if this is the first time you have heard of it, you haven't been listening very well or haven't been very observant. There are many on this board who believe the same thing.
