Oh yes, and the Holy Ghost does not make people babble in jibberish either. The "tongues" at Pentecost were LANGUAGES. But we'll save that one for another debate.
IF there was a iodern versionof speaking in tongues, would be me going to Russia and preaching to them in their native language, and without ever learning it!

For two millennia people have said we are entering the last days.
Some 50 years ago, I remember my dad, who was our Youth Director, telling us
that he believed that the Lord would return in his lifetime.

Dad went to meet the Lord back in 1993. Methinks that is one time my dad was wrong.

Speaking of Dads, I asked him one time when are the end times or last days... He said when I take my last breath, that IS my last day... Dad went to meet the Lord back in 1996... Now weather the Lord comes again before I lay this old tabernacle aside, I don't know... I know this, when my time comes, I'll go to meet the Lord, just like your Dad and my Dad before me... Brother Glen:)

Yes, but the Epistles give dozens of verses which teach conditional salvation.
Most believers seem to skip right over all of those "IF" words!
Dr. Thomas Hale says ... ALL of God's promises are conditional.
Seeing how you fail to keep His commands everyday, how do you plan on getting saved?

Now, as we are entering into the end times, the time is short indeed for believers
to become true believers … by starting to obey Jesus’ commandments!

It is a good thing to become a disciple/apprentice of Jesus, learning to do what He did in one's own life.

(but demons cannot read our thoughts).
False and unbiblical assertion. Yes, I know that it is a popular teaching, but it does not come from scripture.

Now, on to the purpose of the thread: Obedience results in the believer remaining “in Christ”.

Nope. Once you are confirmed in discipleship to Christ, He will finish the work in you. Disciples (learners) fail - often quite frequently - until they begin to gain ability. The mark of a true believer is steady transformation of character and effectiveness. Obedience is a side effect of discipleship.

Sin’s Power Is Broken – is the heading for Romans 6 (New Living Translation)
6 so that sin might lose its power in our lives
6 we are no longer slaves to sin
7 we were set free from the power of sin
10 he died once to break the power of sin
11 consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin
12 do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires
13 do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin (a la Mark 9:43)
14 sin is no longer your master
16 you can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or …
16 you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living
18 you are free from your slavery to sin
19 you must give yourselves to be slaves to righteous living so that you will become holy
22 you are free from the power of sin
22 do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life
23 for the wages of sin is death
All of the above are direct quotes from the New Living Translation (NLT).
The time is running very short for you to REPENT and get with God’s will for your life!
Repenting of a sin (this what the Lord requires of you):
• have sorrow over doing it
• confess it before the Lord
• ask the Lord for forgiveness
• stop doing it

Anyone who can read and understand plain English ...
should be able to see that habitual sinning of believers leads to eternal death.

Yes, we now only get "God's word" from "God's word". There are no new revelations.
One reason why all of you people are spiritually blind ...
is that you refuse to believe that God still speaks to His people.

Are you pretending to be led by the Spirit, which you must be (Romans 8:14)?

You need to be led by the Spirit while reading Scripture,
and ...
You need to be led by the Spirit in your personal lives
and ...
Your church needs to be led by the Spirit when someone
with the gift of prophecy gets up and speaks for God.

The Holy Spirit illuminates God's Word and testifies of and exalts the Lord Jesus Christ. He "reproves the world of sin, righteousness and judgment" and he always "agrees in one" with "the Word" and the Father.

If, IF new revelations were possible,(which they aren't) how would people know which ones were of God and which ones were not? They couldn't. But thankfully the Word of God is perfect and complete and the standard by which we know the things and the will of God.
It is my understanding that NOW FINALLY ...
all of the old denominations understand that ...
"that which has perfect" refers to none other that the Lord Jesus Himself.

You people do really need to get with God's program NOW and not later.

Don't be so foolish as to think that peoples' foolishness represents God and His teachings.
Such foolishness is NOT the Lord's fault.

No matter how many millions of time I explain the importance of REPENTANCE,
I will have people like you to deal with ... Gee, what fun!

Post #27 leaves us with the conclusion that ...
believers are responsible for their foolish free-will choices to sin,
and ...
believers are responsible for their foolish free-will choices to not repent,
and thus ...
believers are responsible for their eternal destiny.

This quite excellent indeed.
IMO, the Lord will successfully fully sanctify most believers.
Multitudes of people in the churches think they are true believers,
butski they are involved in habitual sin. Will they wake up and repent?
These people are nowhere close to being disciples.

Does not everyone here refuse to act on many dozens of warnings in the NT.
No, We don't. So, again I ask, "Please post where SheepWhisperer or anyone else in this thread has insisted we need not believe and act on all NT verses."

I'm glad you appreciate it, but I want to stress that I am saying something different than you have been saying.

Yes, but for all of us, the practical sanctification of our persons will not be complete until the Day of the Lord. Granted, we can make enormous progress, but there will always be work that has to be done. We are children of dust and have not become what we will one day be.

Multitudes of people in the churches think they are true believers,
butski they are involved in habitual sin.
True believers can still be caught up in habits of sin (aka "habitual sin"), simply because many don't know they have a choice, and those that do are still working out their salvation (the practical effects of it) with fear and trembling.

Will they wake up and repent?
If it happens, it will be because they hear a balanced Christian message that does not claim that we have to achieve a certain measurable level of performance for the Lord to consider us one of His children. There is a transformation of focus that begins at true repentance and discipleship. It often doesn't happen immediately when we initially respond to the gospel, but it happens as we press on past the early stages of faith and begin learning from Jesus.

These people are nowhere close to being disciples.
You are not necessarily the best judge of that. Especially when discipleship has not been effectively taught in popular circles.

I agree that most modern presentations of "the gospel" are actually explanations of the atonement with a call for a transaction of our sin debt for "heaven," and not the call of Jesus to "repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand." But at the same time, there is a wideness in God's mercy for those who are not terribly faithful (Luke 12:47) - and even for the ignorant (Luke 12:48). There will be many surprises on the Day of the Lord.

Those are true statements. If you are indeed led by the spirit, please read and understand this.......

Romans 8
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Are you a "son" of your father? Nothing can change that fact .It is the same with God.

So when are you going to repent of your daily sins and mean it by not doing it over and over again? Or do you believe we can do as we please and then just tell God we are sorry before we go to sleep each day? What if you happen to die abruptly before repenting on a given day?
