Honeysuckle is a fact of life in certain climates. The only cure is (gasp) Round-Up. I cannot bring myself to do it. Any of God's creation that clings that fervently to life is, in my book, worthy of acceptance. This is written as I watch the honeysuckle overwhelm my rose bush.
At least I don't have to deal with kudzu.
I do not, however, give the same latitute to wild carrots. Henbit, yes, and clover, but not wild carrots. And please, give me spiderwort.

Not sure but I believe I own this plant called spiderwort. I will have to look for a picture on the net to see.
I found this plant abandoned by a water meter. (Our meters are in the ground surrounded by a concret something or other that has a lid over it) So I dug ir up and placed it in my flower bed. Beautiful flower. I think it is wild flower or an old time flower. I love it, and have multiplied it over and over. It has little purple flowers on it. I will go see...be right back.

Tradescantia is named for John Tradescant, gardener for Charles the First of England in the 17th century.
Wort comes from Anglo-Saxon wyrt "herb" or "root", and spider from the belief held at one time that they would cure spider bites.
I must need to thin mine out. They are really in big bunches. Loves more shade than constant sun.

talking about gardening problems, ever noticed that the best roses have the most thorns on?
spiritualising on that, if we want to reach through to the rose of Sharon and admire its beauty and fragrance at close range we often have to suffer the thorns of life on the way.

Good Morning. I came in briefly before I get ready for church.
I lost 3 rose bushes this year. I wonder why? I wonder if those lightening storms had anything to do with it. Also my plum tree went.
I guess I can now only grow things from Africa. (hmmmm Spiderwort, Okra, so on so forth...all orig. from Africa)
I will miss my Plum tree. It was purple and pretty. Well now I will need a tree that grows fast, and is pretty but will give good shade. What do you think rsr?

What flower garden I have is beautiful. I didn't do anything but plant. Roses, Irises, Peonies and dandelions!!!!

When we went to Alabama, I requested a room on the second floor, because if you have a room on the first floor that kudzu grows so fast, it'll get you overnight.

aw sherrie, sorry you have lost some of your roses and your plum tree. i love plum trees. the roses we have in the garden are mostly climbers and ramblers. i don't know if you have the same varieties over there as we have here. i think i have been very fortunate this year, i have only really lost a few fuchsias, everything else seems to have survived. african plants...now there is a wonderful opportunity for you..strelitzias and proteas? i love them both. there are very few flowers i don't like. the fun of gardening is the sharing, i think. passing on cuttings and plants and what people share with you. hope the weather improves so you can start enjoying your garden again.

Sherrie, lovely , thank you for the thought... and I have eight pots of arum lillies from a clump Rob dug up and divided for me, you could have had one of those and some herbs, fucshias, sweet williams, wall flowers and tomato and pepper plants...lol

Storms tend to travel from the west to the east. Guess what? You got it...it stormed here yesterday and the day before, and now it's making it's way toward you Sherrie. I wonder how long it will take before this one gets to you? Let's see...it probably takes about 4 or 5 hours to fly there in a jet...hmmm. Maybe a couple of days at cloud speed?
IT'S MAY!!! It's supposed to be a little warmer, at least in this neck of the woods. Brrrrr. Windy and cold. The heater kept kicking on last night.
I love Honeysuckle...won't grow in this arid climate. I envy you Sherrie, having so much of it that you are trying to kill it. Won't grow here...nope. The only thing that grows here without a great deal of assistance are Tumbleweeds and Joshua Trees.

Honeysuckle....does smell very good...and I remember younger years pulling the center ever so gentle and getting the honey out. I spent many a minute being occupied by this.
BUT...this crazy stuff is growing wild and takes over all the ditch hill I have. We cannot mow where it is and it looks awful. Not a pretty sight at all. Gradually we are able to get stumps out. They must have been here growing wild for years. The stumps are huge.
I wonder why Honeysuckle will not grow in CA. You weather is so beautiful. Maybe too sandy.
Well have to get off the computer...we are having a tornado warning and I need to unplug.

BUT...this crazy stuff is growing wild and takes over all the ditch hill I have. We cannot mow where it is and it looks awful. Not a pretty sight at all. Gradually we are able to get stumps out. They must have been here growing wild for years. The stumps are huge.

Do you have rose of Sharon (another hibiscus relative)? We planted a few and now they reseed profusely, so they're liable to pop up anywhere.

Well that looks like the spiderwort I have. I wonder which I have?
No Rose of Sharons....but I love them, and I am thinking of buying some Rose of Sharons for one side of my property line.
Well We survived the Tornadoes, but there are more around us... Daniel Dunivan who is on the board, they live only a few miles from me... Puxico, MO....they had a pretty good Tornado...wonder how they are? 53 miles an hour winds for us. You guessed it...lawn furniture is really in no good condition over these storms.
Well it is all heading North and Northeast. These storms came from the Leachville...Jonesboro AR way. I wish it would Just stop.
