Did someone say "waxing cars"? I used to do that once a week - can you imagine? And it was washed almost daily. But it's ok, I am better now. This one has been dirty for months!.

Wax only goes bad if it's been frozen, and then not all brands even do it then. So you should be ok. Want to come over and do mine next?

Oh, Hi everyone. Today we have rain/sunshine and wind/calm. We just can't make up our mind. But I'm here with all you and warm and comfy.

It's good to see you all. I hope your day is going well.

Well Carolyn...I was going to suggest that you know far more about this, than me, you should come over and do mine. :D

Oh....and I am much calmer now. Thank you whoever prayed for me.

Carolyn, You used to wash your car every day and wax once a week? I thought I was bad. I used to wash it every week and wax it every month. I've slown down a bit I think. For me it's because the satisfaction of having a nice clean car is always deminished by my children making it messy almost the instant I wash it.

You have rain today Carolyn? I wonder if it will make it's way down to me...sometimes it does, sometimes it just goes on over to Idaho. [IMG]

Sherrie, Glad you feel calmer? So do I...but I think it's because I got some of the tension out by not supressing it and having fun with it.

    It's been a fun day hasn't it?

It's really beautiful here today...more like what it should be this time of year. It's the first day this week that the sky stayed blue and the wind didn't kick up. Cool Beans. (Who said that, I got that expression from somebody on the B.B. [IMG] )

Yes, some people Just seem to deliberately rile you up. And I really try to ignore them. But there is a time when you just got to go for it. I was really trying to be nice in my madness. Can you believe that.

Well where is that blackbird...I still don't know if there is any blooms on those tomato plants yet.

Jim.... [IMG] I am experiencing the bombing of bird droppings all over my car. The rain does not seem to wash it up.

I consider road grime the glue that holds my truck together.

However ... my parking place at work is directly beneath a tree in which grackles like to congregate at nightfall, so if I forget to move the truck late in the afternoon I've been known to have been carpet bombed by the feathered fiends. A few times I had to drive by hanging my head out the window until I could get to the car wash to remove the offending material.

As for wax, I put another quarter in the machine at the car wash and happily spray it all over the truck. It works especially well on the windshield.

I bought a new mini-truck in 1993. I can count on one hand the number of times I hand washed it. I may have had it washed 10 times or so at the carwash.

I bought a new silverado in 2001. I have it handwashed every 2-3 weeks and detailed every 3-4 months, waxed every 6 months. It's a much mo' better ride than the isuzu.

Good morning, Jon. Bless. You won't find too many up at this time in the morning.

How are things going in Scotland? We are enjoying summer weather here in Ontario. Weather is getting into the 20's..t-shirt weather, as we call it.

    Cheers,

    Jim

This morning, my devotions were in 2 Sam 15: 1-12

As a backdrop, if we follow David's life we often focus on his accomplishments, and forget his personal life and failures. He was indeed a valiant-for-truth warrior under God. He also commited a great sin. For this sin he fell under the chastisement of God throughout his life, and he knew great sorrow.

This chapter opens with Absolom. He enters with a great desire to be king, and he goes about it with great pomp and ceremony. "And it came to pass after this, that Absolom prepared him chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him." (verse 1). He had royal designs, and he was going to demonstrate his worthiness. His plan was to show that he deserved to be king more than did David. It is here to be noted that outward show and display will always get attention, but is it what the Lord expects or even wants of us. How much do we deign to "show" ourselves worthy by earthly presentation? Ought we not to humbly be available for God's bidding rather than rushing in, garbed in full armour. We may very well have the armour, but are we spiritually equipped?

This can lead us to the place where Absolom says, "Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!" (vs 4).

He was undermining the king. Look at me! Look at me! I will do better. Carry this into our Christian lives and in our evaluation of others. We are left to say, "There but for the grace of God go I." And with the Apostle Paul, "We do not frustrate the grace of God..." (Gal 2:21).

Yes, be all that we can be, but not with pomp and ceremony, but in all humility showing forth the Lord Jesus Himself. Run the race to win, but not forgetting the les fortunate who can only run, walk, crawl or wheel along.

Here I want to tell a story of heroism. It was in the Montreal Olympics. An American runner, Bruce Jenner won some five gold medals. After one victorious race, he crossed the line, carried the victory flag to great applause. He then looked back and saw a bedraggled man plodding along. Jenner waited for him. When the man crossed the line, Jenner went to him, shook his hand and reportedly said, "You finished the course."

This man was from a third world country a small island. He struggled during the marathon. Had many spills and injuries along the way. It was three hours after everyone else had finished the race, but he continued on. He happened to enter the arena just as Jenner was finishing his great race. Mr. Jenner waited for him. I have always had a very high regard for Mr. Bruce Jenner.

We ought always to run the course, but never forget that behind us are people who also ran, and we ought to extend ourselves to them, perhaps not as victors, but as fellow journeymen in this life. God bless us everyone, as Tiny Tim, the Dickens' character said.

    Cheers,

    Jim

OOOOOOOOOHHHHHH, but if Absolum would have somehow known what was ahead of him along the way---he would have asked the Barber for a "Burr" cut instead of the mop he had!!

Wash cars??? I bought a brand spankin' new Silverado 2002--and in the year I have had it so far it has been washed twice!!!! Once when the power company was nearby doing some switchin' on some overhead electric lines---one of their lift trucks sprung a hydrolic leak from one of the high pressure hoses and it spewed oil all over my truck--I had no choice!! One of the power company men even helped!!!!!!!!!!

The other time was when I let it get caught in a recent hail storm---one of my church members has a body shop and he did the repairs---when I got it back it was repainted, washed, and the inside was detailed and vacuumed!!!!!

So, here's is what Blackbird does! He parks his truck out in the wide open hopein' for two things----the electric company to park their trucks nearby and for a good old fashioned hail storm!!!!!

But I'm like Laurenda---I have a 10 and an 8 year old--it don't take long for the French Fries, chocolate bar wrappers, gum, blow-pop sticks, fudge sycle sticks and whatever else to accumulate!!! No matter how hard you are on the little fellas to pick up after themselves!!! And that includes Blackbird!!!!

Your Southern Baptist preachin', anti-car washin', fool!!

****PROBLEM**** Need some advice before tomorrow morning!

Hubby and I were going to take my grandson (who has never fished before) to a "Fishing Derby" for kids ONLY tomorrow.

Hubby was mandatoried to work tomorrow. That means Grandma (ME) is going to have to take him. It is his birthday and I can't disappoint him. (although I'm sure I will). He is all excited about going.

I don't do worms but I CAN do chicken livers. But what if he catches something??? I will clean a fish, cook a fish, and eat a fish. I WILL NOT TAKE A LIVE FISH OFF OF A HOOK!

    HELP............................

Well, Sue,,you could always buy some of those artificial worms..no wiggly, squishy thingies to put on the hook.......Removing the fish? Hmmmm get the lad to do it. Tell him he must learn how to remove the fish. Chances are, when he does catch a fish he will want to parade it anyway and carry it about for awhile on the end of the line....cross your fingers and hope it drops off eventually.........Wot a dilemma!

    Cheers, and enjoy the day!

    Jim

PS,,If you cut the barbs off the hook beforehand, the fish will slip off the hook much easier.

Since it is a fishing derby and prizes will be awarded...only real worms can be used.

I doubt that he will want to touch it anymore than I do. He has led a sheltered life.

Won't that stop him from catching the fish in the first place?

I do appreciate the suggestions Jim, but I am afraid NOTHING is going to help. Oh! The things we Grandmas have to do sometimes! [IMG]

I will probably be the only woman out there and the other Daddys and Grandpas will be busy helping THEIR grandsons. Plus, I don't particularly want Stephen to know his Grandma is afraid to touch a live fish because I don't want HIM to become afraid of them too!

Oh what a tangled web we weave! Do you think this might be a test? [IMG]

Sue, I fish all the time with barbless hooks. The fish can be caught, but it is easier to remove the fish from the hook.

Wear gloves to handle the fish. A pair of wool-like gloves..you know wot I mean..this way you won't feel the slimy fish.

In live release, we wear gloves all the time. The human oils on our hands actually injure the fish. A firm grip of the tail, or just behind the gills,,,,,you know those flappy things behind their ears...... [IMG]

My younger daughter, the one who is now a pathologist, refused to touch worms or even bring the fish into shore........one time she threw the rod and everything into the lake.....that solved removing the fish from the hook thingy. [IMG]

    Cheers,

    Jim

Sounds like a plan to me! [IMG]

OK, I will buy some barbless hooks. (that might even stop one of us from hooking ourselves from behind) [IMG] Will the chicken livers stay on?

I will also wear gloves (will oven mitts work?). :( I'm not sure what kind of fish they stocked the pond with, but if it's catfish...I'm gonna try to drown them [IMG] ...I don't think they make 'barbless' catfish in this area. :D

And, yes, I know what gills are! I have an aquarium and won't even touch THOSE fish !!!

I think the big thing is, Stephen thinks his Grandma knows EVERYTHING. What a rude awakening for a child! [IMG]

Thanks for all the advice. I'm sure we'll make it through somehow, but I'm sure not looking forward to it! Now I know why God made Grandpas!

    Sue!!!!!

Air Traffic controller to the hapless stewardess:

"Listen to me, M'am! M'am, listen! These 747's are a sench to land! Just relax and I'll find you a airport with a runway long enough that you can roll that baby to a stop"

Can't do the worm thing?? No problem! Go to Wal-Mart and the sportin' good section and ask the clerk for a jar of "Power Bait"--comes in a glass jar and you can buy it in different colors. Good for Crappie or Bream or for any other hapless fish who happens to be hungry! Power Bait looks like little pellets and you just put a few on your hook and "Look out, Nellie!!"

You can get you a can of Green Giant Niblet corn and put a few kernals on the hook and hold your mouth just right and "Look out, Nellie!!!"

Can't take the fish off the hook?? Two options! Number one--scope out the lakeside and try to stand by some man who looks like he would be willing to take the fish off for you! You'll be surprised what a man will do for somebody else while he's out fishin'!! Be bold and ask him, "Sir! Will you be so kind as to help me and my boy here--we ain't never ever done this before and . . . !

Option two: Try! If you can't stand the fish feel on your hands--put you on some of those latex gloves that nurses wear while givin' ole Blackbird a shot right in the ole . . .! Look at how the hook entered and just slowly ease it back out the same way it went in---ole Ninety-nine hit up on a good idea about barbless hooks--ask the fishin' clerk to give you a pack of barbless hooks!

And invite the coffee shop to the fish fry! You'll do fine and have a blast!

Your Southern Baptist preachin', hook settin' nutt!

I usually have taken my cars for a car wash once a month, having them washed at whatever gas station has a car wash.

Anyways, the shelter I have stayed in the past few days closes tomorrow, but another one in downtown Jackson will be staying open. I have even thought about applying for assistance thru FEMA and the Red Cross as I seek alternative housing. In a little while I am off to West Memphis, AR, to interview for a teaching position there. A good friend of mine said that she'll be praying for me at 130 this afternoon as the interview begins. I am tempted to spend tonight in the Memphis area just so I can unwind and relax away from the stressful life I've encountered in Jackson for the past 12 days. Sometimes my mind feels like it's racing faster than the time trials at Indy---LOL. In a way, I wish I were heading somewhere like Dexter, Wesson, Fort Worth, Gastonia, or Casper--but then I gotta take what I got :D
