Dan, my study is 24 x 15 and is floor to ceiling bookshelves except for one small corner where I have the two computers. There are also boxes in another room upstairs (spare bedroom) kept just for storage.

My books are all numbered and categorized and kept on the shelves in proper order.

A good number of my books were given to me as a young preacher by another older minister. Most of my books are old. I am not into buying many modern books. I am not even familiar with some of the newer preachers, professors or authors.

Cherish your books. They are your best friends in ministry. Like you, I have books that I have only read portions from. Slowly, I am going through them and catching up.

Cheers, and happy ministering. There is nothing to compare with ministry.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Sherrie,

I'm sorry you are off to never-never land - as I was about to apologize for not believing you about 24. Maybe a little explanation is in order.

The pastor in me wants to believe everything everyone tells me. So the pastor believes you are 24, by looking at your picture - I would have guessed you were only a year or so older than Abby.

Now comes the problem - the engineer in me remembers you telling us that you are a grandmother. So if you had your first child at 12, and your first child parented their first child at 12, then your grandchild[ren] would be about how old - I'm having a difficult time figuring out all this new math!!! :D :D :D

Sherrie - we all love you in the Lord - whether you are 24 or 124.

    Sweet dreams [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    The Dumbfounded Duo is dismayed.

"Great Prancing Polygraphs, Blackbird! She's had three pieces and she's still not breaking! How is that humanly possible?"

"Son, I can't understand it. No way, nohow should she be able to take the pressure! By, now, well, she should be tellin' us the 'secret admirer' along with her weight, age and who done her wrong when she was in the first grade and still holds a grudge!"

"Wait a minute, little featherbedder. I noticed Sherrie had three hydraulic doughnuts right before she had the cake. There may be a connection."

Robin, whisking aside his crimson-and-cream robe, produces the John Deere Spectro Analyzer Chemographometer and Seed Drill. A doughnut disappears into its maw and lights flash.

"Great Gallping Benzene Rings, Blackbird! The hydraulic fluid is an antidote to the truth serum! She's had so much she may never tell the truth again!"

"Well, it ain't over, not by a long shot, my flighty buddy. We'll send Rod over to Arkansas Poultrytechnic to get started on the answer. In the meantime, let's have some cake."

"NOOO, Blackbird! You'll never be able to tell a fishing story again!"

Wow! You all have such interesting things to say. This is my favorite place to read. It's better than any soap opera and doesn't contain the smut. I have a couple of weeks off now and hope to get lost in the coffee shop. [IMG]

My husband catalogues all my books for my course. The postman came just a few minutes ago with another book...I now have: The Theology of Paul the Apostle by James Dunn. It was a bargain wot had to be got on Amazon [IMG] I must have going on 300 theology books now. I love books and I have been really blessed with people giving me books and some really good finds in charity shop too. Now I need another bookcase  :D

Sheila, how ya doin'? Books, huh? Like ole Ninety nine--some of my books in my personal library were given me by preacher friends who retire. I helped one preacher friend move from Bude to Jackson one time and he gave me near about half of his library---talk about a boy in the candy store!!! Another preacher buddy calls me up and says, "Come pick out everything you want!"---but by the time I got around to going over to his house--meanwhile, he had called several other preachers and offered the same)he didn't have much to choose from---but I chose with grace and appreciation!

I had another young preacher friend who was resigning and getting out of preaching. Sad to say but the Lord Jesus has helped him along the way---he's still in ministry as Minister to College Students at a church in Jackson---just not preaching anymore---anyway, I had been in his office several times and he had a looooooooot of NICE books by NICE authors-(it has taken me years to collect what he had collected in only a couple)--so when I heard he wasn't going to preach anymore I asked him, "What 'cha gonna do with your library?"---he didn't like that question---I wasn't being mean or sarcastical or anything.

    Have a good day!

    Your buddy,
    Blackbird

Along with my theology books I also collect military history--preferabley World War Two.

Dan Todd!!! Dan! Daaaaaaaaaaaannnn! Son! You are headed for trouuuuuuuuuuuuble!

Back a while ago following the board(before Blackbird was a well known celebrity on the board)---I had the saaaaaaaaaame question on my mind that you had(about this 24 thing!!)

Curious--so I got out my calculator(the kind with a zillion buttons you can push on the key pad!!) and got to figurin'---I mean, I was burnin' that calculator up!!! I was askin' it all kinds of questions and nothin' was addin' up!! Finally, the Wal-mart clerk stopped sellin' me batteries for the dumb thing---I was drainin' the batteries dry tryin' to figure the product and the sum and the equation!!

I know you engineers have those slide rule calculator things! Now, you may want to use that thing for your figurin' the "24 Solution!"---but go slow!!!! Too much slidin' back and forth and you'll catch that calculator on fire---just like I would drain those batteries!!

Finally after drainin' batteries(Wal-Mart doesn't give those things away) I did what any smart preacher would do----I started takin' Sherrie at her word! Face value! I believe her with all my heart! It has helped me get along with her on the board so nicely!

Just a little piece of preacher-ly advise! As they would say Down Under---"No Worries, Mate!"

Your Southern Baptist preachin', calculator battery drainin' buddy,

    Blackbird

    Good Morning All!

Here is the first picture of Ed and Betty getting back from Alaska. Beware! I am a reporter for the "Coffee Shop Gazette" and you never know where I'll pop up! [IMG]

Did ya'll see the picture I posted yesterday morning of Blackbird and Sherrie sneaking donuts in the kitchen before anyone else got here? Blackbird is the one in the chef's hat.

I painted outside most of the day yesterday. I would like to get the rest of the windows (nine)in front trimmed out today if it doesn't rain, but it looks like it's gonna. [IMG]

I'm off to the kitchen to fix my low-carb breakfast. I sure do miss those donuts!

Be back later if it rains.

    Sue

Good morning - one and all.

Thanks for the tip blackbird - we spend enough on batteries for our camera equipment - so I'm going to let the pastor side of me win out - you know the side that believes everything everyone tells me, and trusts that no one will mislead me.

I'll let my engineer self work on other problems, like how to get the square root of -1.

The engineer defers to the pastor - and the pastor suggests that we really make a big deal on the BB about Sherrie's upcoming 24th birthday which is on the 26th.

I wonder where the dear young lady is this morning - she's usually been on the Board - at least to the coffee shop for a couple of hours already.

Hey Sherrie - are you out there?

Sherrie is either sleeping in or she found a bunch of garage sales to go to....I'm betting on the latter. [IMG]

You don't suppose she got sick again and went to the doctor??? Praying that Sherrie is all right.

Dan: I will be posting a candid shot of you in the near future.... :D

Good Morning All! Nice Humid...Grey...Rainy day! Why did I think it would be anything else!

Jon...followinghim ....you sure do get in her early! Thanks for getting things set up for the day!

thetaterkid ...He is back!!!!!!!! So glad to see you back!

Sue...You sure are getting good at taking pictures. Glad Betty had her hair fixed before you shot that picture! Raining here..nothing can be done outside but getting wet!

Edifier ....Good Morning! Get you a good cup of "Jo" over there...and that will wake you up! Jon made that about 2:00am our time! And get some of those donuts followinghim set out!

Blackbird...rsr...and Dan... I am just surprised at you Gentlemen...pushing a young lady as myself about my age! Goodness! But since you are really interested...And the cake had nothing to do with it! I do not eat sweets, flour, or whites.

My oldest Son is 32. I was 15 and 1/2 when I had him. My oldest granddaughter is going to be 15, on the 27th of this month. Thats the day after mine! Now if you add that up, Divide by 2, minus 1...you will get 24! Or you could have just looked at my profile. I think it tells you plan as day, I am going to be 24! Goodness...you boys are something else! [IMG]

Oh...and I am still not telling about those flowers!

Tummy feels good this morning! Soreness is going away. Still sore but not like it was. Still taking those pills.

Now what other kinds of mischief you boys been in already this morning? [IMG]

Yes...there is a lot of grumbling going on in the tummy right now. But I am so glad that burning pain is gone. And I am even feeling better about the soreness.

I know the other day we talked about wrestling; well what about Roller Derby. Roller Derby in Ft. Worth, Texas 1970's, use to come on right after wrestling on saturday night. And yes, I watched that too! And then got up and went to church. Whew! It was hard..but I had to do it! I had to watch! That Roller Derby sometimes was better than wrestling; especially when they would flip'em over those rails and elbow them. Oh yeah...somebody had to watch them...ok...so it was me!

    Loved those Thunderbirds!

    Sue,
I waiting with anticipation at the thought of seeing my photo on the Board. I actually took home the digital camera one day - with the idea of putting my picture on the Board - (I hate digital) - but couldn't figure out how to do it.

If I like your picture of me - and I can figure out how to put it in my profile - well - we'll see.

    Sherrie,
Glad to see you are up and about - I can't speak for anyone but myself - but when I put all the numbers you gave into my calculator - It broke!!! But I promise not to send you a bill ( ) - I'd much rather you spend your money on those pills that (thankfully) seem to be making you feel better.

All in all - I'm glad you have a sense of humor about my picking on you - not everyone does - I often have to resist sharing my sense of humor (or lack thereof) with others - because many many people do not understand and/or appreciate it. (My late dad was one who could have done without my humor.)

Where is Gib - I wonder if AOL is still giving him trouble.
