The Coming Assault on Christianity

There is a difference between listing names from the bible and claiming they are examples of individual outlaw behavior, and citing one example and explaining how individual outlaw behavior is taught in the referenced passage.
In the 1950-60's we had two examples of how to right a wrong. The Malcolm X model of violence and the MLK model of non-violence. One was tribal, one was Christian.
The Bible teaches us how to handle the coming assault on Christianity, using the sword of the Spirit.

What do you think would have happened to Christians under a Mormon in the White House, in light of both his previous record, and their declared prophecy?
The very rhetoric at the beginning of this thread, the accusatory tone in labelling the President as communistic/socialistic is why people don't take Christians seriously, it's not about the faith, it is about rhetoric and tone, and about diving in and taking positions and action before getting the facts straight.
It would help a lot if people would turn the radio dial away from idiots like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck who pictures himself as some kind of reconciler and healing prophet to bring Mormons and Christians together in peace and harmony. Believe what they tell you and people will think you are stupid because you look and sound like it.

1) The administration would not have an agenda to destroy Christian culture.
2) No need to address generalizations, in light of the usual smear tactics of the dark side.
3) Anytime a poster addresses the way something is said, rather than addressing the actual premise, we know disparagement rather than edification is in view.
4) Next we get the usual charge, if we do not agree, then we are stupid and the butt of jokes.
So what does the Bible teach concerning a government that dictates requirements that violate the Law of Christ?

Your right...I should just tear out all of those pages in my Bible dealing with persecution and martyrdom, wouldn't want them to be burdened. Maybe Joel Osteen has a kids version of Your Best Life Now instead...
Good question. Here in the State of WA "same sex" marriage was legalized in the last election and several hundred couples have purchased licenses. Today is the first day upon which the ceremony (after a 3 day waiting period) may take place.
Here's a "what-if" : suppose such a couple applies for membership in a conservative church, giving a testimony of faith and providing proof of baptism by immersion (or willing to be baptized by immersion), what could be the possible consequences if they are denied because the membership refuses to admit them on the grounds that they are living in sin?
This would not only apply to Baptist churches but Catholic (for instance) and many others including non-Christian groups who have historically opposed this concept of marriage.
IMO, this assault goes beyond Christianity.

The Two Swords Luke 22:35
During the Last Supper in Luke 22:35 Jesus reminds the disciples that when they go to spread the good news to bring nothing with them. Then in Luke 22:36 Jesus tells them something very interesting; He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.” Here is another place where context is key. In R. Kent Hughes book The Sermon on the Mount: The Message of the Kingdom the author is explaining Mathew 5:40 and in it he explains how valuable the cloak was in that day; “It was possible in that day to sue others for the very shirt on their backs. However, no one could take anothers cloak for a permanent, twenty-four-hour-a day possession. A cloak or outer robe was indispensable for living in Palestine. So even if you lost your shirt (or tunic) in court and your opponent asked for your cloak and won it he had to return it every evening for you to sleep in.”
Seeing how important the cloak was, why would Jesus then tell the disciples to sell it if they did not have a sword? The closest thing I can think of that we would depend on as much as they depended on their cloak is our vehicle. This would be like Jesus saying, find another way to get to work, another way to get the kids to practice and sell your car and buy a rifle. Why would He do that? I believe that He knew He would be leaving soon and He wanted to make sure the disciples were equipped to defend themselves physically.
A sword, like a rifle, is a weapon used for violent acts or for the threat of violent acts. Whether offensive or defensive it is still a violent act. Jesus could have told the disciples to run away if faced with danger. He could have told them to call on the Father to send a fleet of angels but instead Jesus told them to get swords. In Luke 22:38 the disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.” “That is enough,” he replied. We can only speculate but I think that Jesus wanted them to be able to defend themselves but not be seen as an armed force.
Peter in the Garden of Gethsemane John 18:10, 11
Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.) 18:11 Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?” Jesus knew Peter had the sword; He had just told them to buy them at the Last Supper. Jesus stopped Peter from interfering with God’s will. In Mathew 26:52 Jesus tells Peter “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.” Two things stand out here. Jesus did not say that none of His followers should live or die by the sword. Jesus was telling Peter that he should not live by the sword because Jesus had already told Peter in Mathew 16:18 “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
