Did you read my post on page one of this thread? Lots of people ARE believing what is in this book. It's not a matter of being threatened by it. It's a matter of being grieved at the attack on truth. Christ is clearly attacked here because it's the goddess who prevails. It was painful for me to read this book because I know people who believe some of it. The goddess and divine feminine are not "fun and educational" to me.

Of course it didn't bother you, because you are a strong believer. But it is affecting some weak and new believers and unbelievers. I used to believe in a lot of stuff Christians would laugh at it (like reincarnation), and the problem is, that some christians have a hard time understanding that people really believe these false things seriously. They (unbelievers) focus their lives on them and live by them.

This book only strengthens a lot of lies and falsehoods that are already out there. Any time the gospel is attacked, which can be done in fiction or nonfiction, Christians should be concerned.

Yes I did read your post on page one. And if there is anyone on this or any other website that can honestly say that they havent thought one thing to be true and it turned out not to be, then I guess your arguement on it would hold more merit in my eyes.

I read the book and didnt see the divine feminine as the overpowering arguement against Jesus. What I read was that it was a combined power, male and female, dark and light, yin and yang, good and bad. I hardly think that is an attack on my Christian values or faith. And I took it with a bit of salt. Which difference does it make? With the 'feeling threatened' talk it would seem you are shakable in your faith. I hope that is not to be true.

People arent necessarily believing it as you like to think...people are intrigued by the work as it takes a lot of the mysteriousness from what I think is utter silliness and explains it rationally. What do I mean? Look up the unlucky number 13 and you will see that there is nothing unlucky (I dont believe in luck anyway) about the number...something rather awful happened on that day. I think it dispelled a lot of superstitions which, is part of Fear based religions - which my church specifically preaches against.

If you want something that people are really taking seriously that is in fact threatening our faith look towards the islamic faith. Most of those followers want to kill us. That is something to be worried about dont you think? Id rather be concerned over someone coming over here and telling me I cant pray the way I do now, or even expose my hair, than a silly book.

The gospel has been attacked repeatedly and yet here we are still admiring and following it. People are going to focus on whatever turns their heads. All you can do is be a good example. That is where real strength is.

</font>[/QUOTE]I agree with you Marcia. I've already seen people say how they didn't know that about 'so and so' that's in this book. I think one main reason people are believing it because of the front of the book saying that it's accurate. I can't remember exactly what it said, someone already mentiones it. But that's good enough for many. Alot of people don't know what's fiction or non-fiction. Then again I guess you could say it's their fault for not looking into it more to see if it is true. *sigh*

This "silly" book takes Jesus, the God of the universe, the creater of all that is, the Savior of the world, He who is holy, sovereign and divine. The one who is worthy to receive glory and honor and power forever and ever into a fictional character in a book. Instead of being creative enough to write his own story, this author takes GOD and uses Him to create a work of fiction and make a profit. To me, that is an attack on my faith, my Lord and My God.

There used to be a time when such things were considered sacred. We have tolerated attacks on our faith for so long now that we simply are blinded to what is and is not offensive to our God anymore.

We are such an entertainment oriented society these days that we feel almost anything is worthy if it is entertaining enough. Is not the Word of God full of enough truth about our savior that we have no time to read fictional accounts of our Lord and our God?

Reading for pleasure is not a bad thing, but we are reminded to guard our hearts and our minds. Jesus IS the truth and I will not tolerate lies about Him, even in the name of entertainment.

A book is an attack on your faith?

There are thousands of books out there that specifically attempt to refute God's existance, as well as the ministry of Jesus, and not one of those authors stated they were fiction. And not many of those people made millions of dollars from it either.

As for entertainment, there millions of pieces of artwork and writings about God. God is an amazing topic. To not write about Him, or remind us of Him in art, architecture, song, or whatever other creative device that can be used, is to deny Him for some of us. And for some of us, our daily work has His handprints all over it.

I think the real problem is, that this one is being promoted into a movie and attempting to sell more books, which is why you may feel the onslaught of attack.

Look at this for what it really is, if you have indeed guarded your heart and mind, this in a few years will be another blip on the radar of Christianity.

God is an amazing topic and should have his handprints in all that we do. But whatever we do, when it deals with God, whether it be daily living or writing about Him, it should always be based upon truth. God is worthy of no less.

Believe me, I am upset about any book that refutes Gods existance or worse yet, pretends to present Christian truth and yet speaks lies. I find this book no more or less offensive than any other book that would do such a thing.

Personally, I believe that ALL "Bible codes" and Numerologies made from the Bible are garbage. But then I'm Sola Scriptura & believe the Scriptures LITERALLY.

Someone recently used a computer to apply a "code" to an English translation of Mein Kampf & came up with the names 'Jesus, Jehovah' and the titles 'God' & 'Christ' almost as often the "Bible Code" produced them from Scripture..

Just an fyi that the book The DaVinci Code has no relation to ELS or Equidistant Letter Sequence or Michael Drosnin's book The Bible Code. The "code" in the book is supposedly found in DaVinci's paintings and architectural structures in an Indiana Jones-like treasure hunt.

Same way with the Bible----crackin' coded messages and meanings from the Bible with a computer, huh???

    What a laugh!!!

But then again----you'd be surprised at what "floats" the boats of your average church member----gets all "ga-ga, goo-goo" over some silly code book and can read and study it for hours and hours---but yet come to church and won't give the preacher 40 good minutes to expound upon the truth from the Truth!!!

    Again---what a laugh!!!
