THE DIET THREAD #02

GrannyGumbo

<img src ="/Granny.gif">
Sue~I did a search for cabbage soup diet and have sent a reply on to you. Now when this week is over, I will NOT stay on this diet, but at least I will be motivated enough to continue and maybe come up with something else next week. I lost another pound overnite.

The walking is fun that early in the morn, but as the days get shorter & cooler, I will do it later on. I will miss the peace & quiet, tho'.

It's a way of life for me, donna. I can NEVER go back to eating like I have over the years. I discovered this after losing the 150# that when I become "lax" and forget that I'm 'not normal', haha, the weight starts creeping back on. Sooo~back on a strict routine till the desired amount comes off.

Moderation is the key, but sometimes I get carried away and lulled into a false sense of something & then I start having problems, or I decide to get on the scales and they tell the tale.

That's how I knew I've been a bad girl lately...I've not been feeling good, my legs/feet have been swelling, so when I weighed, I knew I'd been careless somewhere. It's the chocolate with me.

Wellllllll, I am trying to learn to eat a new way on this diet so I can lose weight. Once I reach my goal, I will learn to eat a little differently to maintain.

I would like to be able to eat what I want, but just smaller portions - will have to go with what works...

I have an added incentive to lose weight now besides my health. I am raising my grandson now and I need to be able to do things with him without gasping for breath!

I will basically stay with my current way of eating. Except occasionally if I want a cookie, or an extra garlic bread stick, I'll have it.

that's it, isn't it? the "diet" has to become you. Otherwise, you'll just go back to your old way of eating and then you'll have to start all over again. :(

And it's not fun having to start all over again, believe me! Right now I have to plow thru' about 10-15# that I ALREADY suffered taking off...it's like 2 steps forward, 6 steps back: a never-ending battle! ***I love to cook and I love to eat it; but I have learned to eat 1 biscuit instead of 3.

I take a 'one a day' vitamin for women.

Someone told me that taking vitamins + iron will make you gain weight - or at least make it harder to lose. Any truth to this???

Also; has anyone tried the new Carb Smart vitamins and, if so, do they work?

Thus your
question is moot.

Seems like though, one could pick a diet that
balances one's weight

Exactly, which is why any 'diet' should be normal food so as to become a habit you don't mind keeping instead of having to make yourself do it or gain the weight back.

Tatertot, I eat a cookie every now and then. Our women's ministry ministered outside the jail last Saturdat to the visitors and served lemonade, cookies and sandwiches. I took my own sandwich on low carb bread, and didn't touch the cookies till we were packing up I had 1 1/2. Was a perfect amount for me. I eat sugar free cookies sometimes. I still loose weight, and can eat like this the rest of my life, no problem, and I don't feel deprived.

Ed, you would thimk so, plus was nutritionally healthy.

Sue, I take a one a day for women. Still loosing weight.

Granny, I think I've had maybe 5 biscuits since last October. I love biscuits and gravy, but I've found that most of my favorite foods I no longer like as well. Which leaves out mac and cheese, and chocolate pudding.

Donna: I eat the instant 'sugar free' chocolate pudding all the time. It is delicious!

My cabinets are stocked with different flavors of sugar free Jello and Instant Pudding. That is usually our dessert (with some cool whip on top or mixed in with Jello).

I'll have to try some of that instant sf chocolate-oops, now why did I say that...well, maybe after this excess water comes off I can have just a wee bit chocolate. I have tried the sf jello with Dream Whip.

Today's not been a good day & I remember now why I had that cabbage soup diet tucked away. I don't want to see another banana(unless it's those dancing ones) for a looong time. I am starving!

Just one more day to go and I really do feel great! Honest Injun. The banana day was rough, but once I got past it, everything was okay. The scales say I've lost 9# since Monday...WOOHOO! Does that give me encouragement, or what?!

Now next, I will think of another strategy & work on the other 5...and then, maybe a break, and after that, I will head for the last 20 & be done! YAY!!!

I AM gonna make it!

Hmmm~cottage cheese and peaches might be on the "to eat" list, along with a broiled chicken breast or hamburger patty. Think I'll try this everyday next week.

Hi everyone! I'm new! I thought I'd jump into this thread because I need to get back to a healthy eating lifestyle. Last year I lost 30 pounds in six months to get to my ideal weight and I kept it off for the next six because of healthy eating habits. However, this year I've gained about 10 pounds, because I have had my brain in neutral when I've made my food choices. First, I want to get back to eating quality food with the nutrients my body needs, and second, drop those excess pounds! I find that if I talk with friends about eating right, then it's more likely to be on my mind when I open the refrigerator door.

Warm southern greetings, Jed! I've been thru' Seattle a time or two...but it was way back in the 50's. Guess it's really changed, eh?

Don't look to me for healthy eating; ho-hum. I just sit around thinking of crazy things to do to motivate me to lose those last pounds. I've already shed over 150#!

Continue on your quest for good health...I know you will do good at it! Have fun camping, too! I've always loved to camp & we use an old 20y/o tent held together by duct tape & clothespins! The Cascade Mountain Range was my first place to ever go.

Till next time...take care & keep eating healthy!

Granny-- Thanks for the welcome! Wow! You've said goodbye to 150 pounds--that's a terrific accomplishment! I'm sure you have lots of good weight loss tips!

We have camped many times in the Cascade Mountains--there's no better place to be in the summer than the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Except the last couple of days it's been in the nineties--kinda like down in Dixie! --Jed

Hi Jed and welcome to the thread of encouragement!

Granny: I bought all the ingredients for my cabbage soup, fresh veggies and fruits (including the dreaded bananas). I like a banana once in awhile, but 6-8 in one day?

I am determined to start Monday morning. Brent has read what I can eat each day and is going to hold me accountable!!!

If I lose 10# next week, that will be a GREAT 'kick-off'. After next week, the low carb diet will feel like a FEAST!

I'm back on my own Balanced Natural Food eating plan. It basically focuses on whole foods: lean meat/fish, vegetables, fruit, and whole grains. It centers around eating God-made food for our God-made bodies. It is also a low *refined* carb plan. It reduces the *quantity* of the calories, yet increases the *quality* of the calories. It promotes health first and weight loss second, which is slow but steady. This is the best way I have found to provide quality fuel and nutrients for my body and lose weight, too! --Jed
