The dot

The RED DOT

Finally someone has cleared up the dot.

For centuries, Hindu women have worn a dot on their foreheads. Most of us have naively thought this was connected with tradition or religion, but the Indian embassy in New York has recently revealed the true story.

When a Hindu woman gets married, she brings a dowry into the union.

On her wedding night, the husband scratches off the dot to see whether he has won a convenience store, a gas station, a donut shop, a taxi cab or a motel in the United States.

If nothing is there, he must remain in India to answer telephones and provide us with technical advice.

I have always wondered what that red dot was all about. Now I know.

It has been traditionally a sign of being married. But in recent years it is has become for many merely a fashion thing. Folks in India are into lots of bright, colorful fashion. Sometimes it is painted on other times it is jewelry.

I am not a PC guy but I am wondering how that might make an Indian woman feel if presented to her.

Probably like a bald guy, a fat guy, a woman in the throes of PMS, a blonde, a red-head, a Frenchman, an Irishman, a married person, a single person, or virtually anybody for any given joke!

IOW, any joke could make "someone" feel ---- whatever!
