This is a topic I have been mulling over this past week. What are your thoughts on this topic? I may begin another thread on this once my thought are in order.

Is this about pragmatism?
Depends on the merit of the ideology, does it not?
What are the consequences when the ideology is bad, but people insist on following it blindly as reality does not fit their beliefs?
A second Obama term.
Idealism is for those who cannot come to terms with reality nor the world as it is. I mean this sincerely.
Arbo, Just ... thanks for totally nonsense answers. Totally off topic and should be removed.
It may be one that you disagree with, but it's not nonsense.
It is not that I agree or disagree with your post. It is simply that your post has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this thread, thus it is simply a nonsense reply.
In case you do not understand, the topic is what are the results when an ideology that is out of touch with reality meets reality?
Like the example given about American doctors refusing to accept the new reality that germs exist and sanitation would save lives. There are many historical examples that can be cited.
Here is one thought that came to me. Reality does not conform or change to accommodate ideology.
I would appreciate you replying, on topic with a thought out answer and not an attempt at a cute one-line that says nothing. Thanks in advance.
Re: Obama's second term.
Idea: The apparent majority in America believe that Obama's agenda can be had with little real expense. They believe it's only the rich and greedy big business who will see their taxes increase. This belief was reaffirmed last tuesday.
Reality: We've yet to see the full results, but we know that taxes will go up for almost everyone.
I know my point is overly simple, but I hope that you don't consider this a cute one-liner that says nothing.
I know people who have a naive trust of people who call themselves "Christian" e.g. They want to only go to "Christian" doctors. I have been screwed to many times by people claiming to be "Christian." I would trust a person with an "Arab" name before a person with a fish symbol on their advertisement.
