Don't completely dismiss them, but take responsibility for what the Bible actually says instead of deferring responsibility to someone else to tell you what they think God says.
That's one of the defining assumptions of the whole Protestant Reformation - stop relying on the popes and priest to interpret the Bible, but to interpret it in a faith community where everyone is led by the Spirit and can help each other out.
In Acts 17:11, the Bereans didn't just take Paul at his word. They studied the scriptures to see if everything they heard was true. This is commendable and an example for all of us.

The Bible is the authority and always has been for me. You assume too much! For example if a book (many by charismatics) lack scripture depth and are therefore trash. I even read a book by a IFB pastor with the same problem. Poor exegesis! Books are not the authority the Bible is.
It's not that I think Mac is infallible or Washer is infallible because they are not. I have communicated this many times here.
