Don't completely dismiss them, but take responsibility for what the Bible actually says instead of deferring responsibility to someone else to tell you what they think God says.

That's one of the defining assumptions of the whole Protestant Reformation - stop relying on the popes and priest to interpret the Bible, but to interpret it in a faith community where everyone is led by the Spirit and can help each other out.

In Acts 17:11, the Bereans didn't just take Paul at his word. They studied the scriptures to see if everything they heard was true. This is commendable and an example for all of us.

Of course! I strongly and proudly take the biblical position. You should consider taking it too.

I think even your faith heroes would say the same thing.

The Bible is the authority and always has been for me. You assume too much! For example if a book (many by charismatics) lack scripture depth and are therefore trash. I even read a book by a IFB pastor with the same problem. Poor exegesis! Books are not the authority the Bible is.

It's not that I think Mac is infallible or Washer is infallible because they are not. I have communicated this many times here.

Peter in Acts, as he gave unto them the facts of jesus being the Messiah of God, who died on the Cross, and rose again!
Paul, when he called the Gospel the very power of God unto salvation, an did not include Law in that!
What did Peter mean when he said Jesus was the Messiah he gave them that fact what was that supposed to mean to them?
What did Paul mean when he said the gospel is the power of God resulting in Salvation.
Salvation from what ?
why is it the power of God in reference to what?

Oops, my bad.

.

Jesus did not consistently use the Law in His sermons though. That's a point that I believe is important to this discussion
.

I would attempt to make the case that in every instance it is right there.
What I mean is ...not that he rattled off the 10 commandments each and everytime, but he dealt with peoples sin and need to repent of it.
He did so by identifying sin in each case, and then offering Himself as the remedy for it.....sin is a transgression of the LAW....sin is lawlessness.
the word LAW does not have to be added when we speak of sin does it?
If there is no law, there can be no sin, agreed?

Thank you for calling out my error!
I am not trying to catch you, or jump on your words. I believe this is an important issue and a major defect in many churches in our country.
you did say this;
Yes, Jesus expounded upon the Law, painting a picture of true righteousness in the Sermon on the Mount.]
Yes he did...but I believe he did much more than that for all of us...not just Israelites.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

BB...even our good works, are ordained by God eph2:10....what determines a "good work"?...the law
romans 13:
8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Love to God, love to neighbor...is based on law and law keeping.
The sermon on the mount is a blueprint of living in the kingdom as we are called to be saints in that Kingdom here and now.

BB...you mentioned righteousness correct? What is the standard that determines righteousness?....could it be ....THE LAW?

God uses us in ways as He is possible. As He makes all things from impossible to possible.
Bingo. There is no "best" way, or even "better" way.

Romans 12:4-5; 1 Corinthians 12:11-14; 2 Corinthians 10:13; Ephesians 4:7; Hebrews 2:4

What did Peter mean when he said he was the messiah?
What would the Messiah do?
What is sin?
How do we know we are saved from sins?

Jesus was te one expected from God, who would take away sins of His peopke/be thei King
Sin is mising the mark, of not doing exactly the will of God, as express in His Law
By being born from above, and now having new natures andindwelt by he Holy Spirit of Promise!
