Acts 1:1-3 . . The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when he was taken up, after he had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom he had chosen. To these he also presented himself alive, after his suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days, and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.

That's fine that Jesus showed himself alive to the apostles by many convincing proofs; but where's our proofs? How are his followers today supposed to be convinced Jesus is alive?

Mark Twain once remarked that faith is believin' what you know ain't so.

He also remarked that it ain't what you know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.

My friend, the Holy Bible says it, and we believe it! It is that simple. the Christian Faith is exactly that, FAITH in the Almighty God of the Bible, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Who are coequal, coessential and coeternal. Read the 11th chapter of Hebrews, which is all about FAITH. If you cannot be convinced by the Record of the Word of God, the Holy Bible, then there is nothing else that will ever convince you. Again, 1 Corinthians chapter 15 tells you all about the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, and even deals with those who doubt this.

It's amazing the things that people are willing to believe sans convincing proofs merely because it's written in a holy book; e.g. Koran, Bible, Rig Veda, Tripitaka, and Book of Mormon.

Using a holy book's claims to prove a holy book's claims are true is what's called circular reasoning. It's sort of like a judge releasing an accused felon on the basis of him swearing he didn't do it.

You do understand the concept of faith, don't you?

Faith is believin' what you know ain't so. (Mark Twain)

FYI: Muslims have faith, Buddhists have faith, Jehovah's Witnesses have faith, David Koreth's followers had faith, Jim Jones' followers had faith, Hindus have faith, and Mormons have faith, et al.

I see that you call yourself a "Baptist". Is this really the case, or have you adopted this so that you can post on BB? As you claim to be a "Baptist", and I give you the benefit of the doubt, can you tell me if you believe with ALL your heart, mind and soul, that the 66 Books in the original form of the Protestant Holy Bible, IS The Word of Almighty God to the human race? And, if this be the case, ,that, because it IS The Word of God, Who is Perfect in every way, that His Word to us humans must also reflect His Perfectness? The God of the Holy Bible is UNIQUE; The Saviour of the human race, the Lord Jesus Christ, is UNIQUE; The Holy Bible, THE Word of God to the human race, is UNIQUE. This means that ALL "others" in each class, are utterly demonic and directly from the devil. So, to "compare" to other "books" and "faiths/religions/ways", completely futile and soul damning. The premise of the Bible is simply this: "WITHOUT FAITH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE GOD" (The Word of God, Paul's Epistle to the Hebrews, Chapter 11, verse 6). ONLY after a sinner is truly regenerated (born-again) by the work of God the Holy Spirit, can and will they ever SEE the Truth of the Holy Bible. Please consider this for your souls eternal state. May the Lord grant you His Mercy.

Follow Jesus' commands in scripture and get engaged with the Kingdom of God and you will have all the proof you need.

Many years ago I had my naive childhood faith destroyed by an atheist family member my first semester in college. To be fair, he wasn't actually trying to destroy my faith, but we had grown up in a church situation that taught a lot of foolish and unbiblical ideas, and his story of his loss of faith knocked down the house of cards that was my faith.

I became a seeking agnostic and spent the next 18 months studying everything I could about atheism and many types of faith beliefs and traditions. During the first six months, I had eliminated everything but Judaism and Christianity as credible paths, so I set myself to reading the Bible from cover to cover to figure out if the God Who is described in those pages was real. I asked that God to reveal Himself to me if He was there.

I studied very carefully and objectively, not afraid to ask the hard questions, nor try to get things to fit into any sort of denominational framework, but to simply see what had been written. I also tried to put into practice the commands of Jesus in very practical and non-churchy ways, like loving my enemy. I learned an enormous amount and often read until three or four in the morning, and then slept for two or three hours and went to classes and then work the next day. Even though I was sleeping very little, I was never exhausted, for I seemed to get an enormous amount of rest for the little amount of time I went to sleep. I also noticed that, while I have some intellectual gifts, I was understanding things and making connections that I did not have the experience or intelligence to make on my own. I realized I was being personally and carefully taught. I began to pray to this teacher Who I realized was God (Father, Son, Spirit) and found faith based on my knowledge of engagement with the Divine, not just knowledge from Bible teaching.

Jesus is alive and is still offering proofs to those who seek Him. The Spirit is working among the nations and will engage with you if you are willing. The Father is patient and loving, and is calling you to find rest.

Appropriate faith is based upon knowledge. Jesus can be known as a present reality.
