Cal Thomas, the reporter and writer of this story, doesn't quite know what the word vote means. Vote is not a bad thing Cal, it is a good thing.

It translates to "representation" of the people by the people. The vote stands for what our populations wants and desires. He speaks of the vote as if it is some uncontrollable factor of the enemy. Apparently when the vote goes against his personal understanding and morals, it is a bad thing, yet when it pushes to end to terrorism, it is a good thing.

Sorry, Cal... the vote is the voice of the people and it carries our most important right in America with it, a right you seemingly don't recognize.

In all humbleness, your view that a vote is our most important right as an American is quite skewed from Christian doctrine. Just as the Jews elected to build a golden calf and worship it while Moses was on the mountain. Aaron was accepting the vote, as a good politician would. I think a vote can be a terrible thing if it goes against ...not my opinion nor your opinion, but the Word of God.

Our founding fathers never intended for such blasphemy in this country when they wanted freedom of religion--they simply did not want the "state" to proclaim one particular denomination. It is sad, what our history books leave out today. Find some history books dating pre-1830 era and you will get my drift.

Perhaps the single driving force behind the gay rights issue is the right to health care. Gay partners want and need health care benefits which they cannot get unless their partners are able to include them in group health insurance policies. This puts some urgency into their requests. Suppose that, instead, we grant universal health insurance coverage. Nobody is offended that we're helping gays as a class and gays no longer have an urgent need to get anything as a class they can't otherwise get.

I think it goes beyond the healthcare need. They want equal rights as individuals and couples and parents. Right now, if one of the same-sex spouse dies, their children will not get the social security benefits all other children would get.

Only one homosexual parent can adopt and all rights go only to that one person. This is the root of many problems that children and families of heterosexuals don't face.

This is a case where little children are getting punished for having homosexual parents. Those children could be your grandchildren or great-grandchildren etc. Also, rights normally held by married people don't exist in same-sex partnerships such as the rights to child support, or grandparent rights on the non-adoptive parent side. This means if your son or daughter is homosexual and his/her partner adopts a child, thus they are now your grandchild; and that person separates from your son/daughter, you have no rights to YOUR grandchild you loved and helped raise. You can easily never be allowed to see them again.

In the private sector side, employment benefits etc are also withheld much of the time to the other partner, as well as to the children of homosexual parents.

I'm sure no good Baptist would turn their back on their own child or grandchild if they happen to be homosexual, but neither would you want any unfair treatment of others in your family because of the parent's sexual preference. Your family members deserve the same American rights you and every other non-homosexual person possesses. Just because they chose to live in sin, doesn’t mean everyone else has to suffer. They pay taxes just like the rest of us sinners and deserve the same American Rights.

Marriage would solve a lot of these problems and help get them into more committed relationships while building strong family ties.

Genesis 2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

That's the reason. When one man and one woman come together in the bonds of holy matrimony ("holy", the way God designed it), then they are recognized as one flesh. Man-Man and Woman-Woman cannot unite this way. It's not possible.

This is no surprise. Sad, but no surprise. However Jesus dealt with people one at a time and He made rather a ripple in the world's history. All we need to do is likewise, one person at a time and God has given each of us neighbors to love as we love ourselves, eh?
