In one point - we don't really KNOW what they used.

So yes, I can 'guess' just as well as the highest scholar!

Nothing you stated confirms WHAT they used - only that they had those available if the so chose to use them.

And what am I claiming about the 1560 Geneva Bible?

That it follows Baptist doctrines closer than anyother English version.

You can read it clearly in the text.

You have not demonstrated your claim to be true.

Does the 1560 Geneva Bible actually follow Baptist doctrine concerning repentance closer than any other English version?

Oh well, not that it matters.

Just about everywhere an English Bible is erroneous toward Baptist doctrine, the Geneva supports Baptist doctrine, sometimes even against the KJV.

Pertaining to:
-works for salvation
-baptismal regeneration
-'tongue' speaking
-tempting from God
-previous earth theory
-abortion
-doubt in Bible text
-handling snakes
-traditions
-flat earth theory
-Jesus sitting on David's throne
-Jesus being the Lord
-position of thrones in Daniel 9
-baptizing for the dead
-doctors
-the missing words of the text
-where to find God's words

Just to name a few.

What is actually known about their actual available sources is much stronger evidence than your mere speculation that they may have some unknown source.

Are you trying to rationalize or excuse any places where the makers of the Geneva Bible may have made inconsistent or incorrect textual criticism decisions or translation decisions?

Nope.

Just pointing out the non-baptist translations of others.

How does that work out?
What excuses?
The 1560 Geneva has the correct wording we have always believed as Baptists.

I will never apologize for our doctrines being supported by a text from the scriptures.

What is speculative is imagining you know all the sources they DID use, but not having any source for your proof.

Better evidence is being present when they translated, which you and I weren't.

It has not been demonstrated that the 1560 Geneva Bible has the correct renderings in relationship to what Baptists have taught concerning repentance.

The 1842 revision of the KJV by Baptists could be more soundly considered in better agreement with some Baptist doctrine than the 1560 Geneva Bible is. A later edition of it in 1847 was printed with the name "Baptist Bible" on its binding.

Look in the gloss of the original 1611 KJV at Matthew 3:8. They knew both phrases meant the same.

This English Bible would provide evidence that you have not considered in making your unproven claim concerning the Geneva Bible.

An edition of the KJV "carefully revised and amended by several Biblical scholars" was published in Philadelphia by J. B. Lippincott for David Bernard in 1842. I have a copy of a second edition printed in 1842.

The Biblical scholars included mostly Baptists such as David Bernard and A. C. Kendrick.

In the preface, David Bernard wrote: “In the present work, nothing beyond a careful revision of the version of King James has been attempted; followed by such corrections as the interests of truth and the original text seemed to require.“ The 1842 edition also has a preface to the New Testament that was written by A. C. Kendrick that indicates that he was the editor of at least its N. T.

The sixth edition published by a different publisher in 1847 had the title "Baptist Bible" on its binding.

A book entitled The Faithful Translation by David Bernard and Samuel Aaron was published in 1842 in support of it.

From this list I would consider salvation by works and baptismal regeneration to be doctrines that have definite Baptist angles to them. I would say all Baptists deny baptismal regeneration and I would hope all would deny salvation by works. The other stances are not necessarily uniquely Baptist.

If you could provide verses I would be happy to go compare the Geneva Bible to the KJV and see for myself. I suspect there are others reading this thread that would do the same.

Ahem. All doctrine is Baptist doctrine whether or not others follow it also.

All doctrine means is scriptural teachings.
