I just started reading this book for the first time since 1999 (2nd edition) as I have never completed it. In the first chapter he took Ryrie out of context. Ryrie does not teach that salvation and Lordship are different. Ryrie would agree that one cannot be saved if they have no fruit. Fruit is evidence of salvation (Gal 5:22ff). What MacArthur is saying in chapter 1 about Dispensationalists does not speak of all Dispensationalists. However what he says describes almost perfectly many Fundamentalists whom want people to say a prayer and may lead people into easy believism. However it is only the very ignorant that think the message of Christ on the sermon on the mount was meant for that dispensation. No the message is for believers today. Reformed often like to use straw men and broad brush us Dispensationist. However we are not all the same.
