Are wearing a safety pin to show you are not a hate monger?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

By fastening a safety pin to their clothing, people are declaring themselves allies to groups who have been maligned by Trump, to show that they stand in solidarity with anyone who might be afraid.

And as we’ve been dismayed to find out in the days following Trump’s election, it appears that there is reason to fear. People across the country have shared stories on social media of violence and hate speech directed at them in the wake of Trump’s victory. Racist graffiti was spotted around the country and minorities reported experiencing harassment the day after Trump was elected.

These frightening instances illustrate why the #safetypin idea ― which was inspired by a movement following Brexit in the United Kingdom ― is so timely. It’s a tiny gesture, but it speaks volumes, assuring people they are not alone.

Ya, wear a pin and make yourself a sure target! Smart, must be a liberal idea :Geek

So you are afraid of showing you do not hate people. Interesting.

Reminds me of:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

The safety pin merely reminds of pinning a diaper on little babies that hasn't learned how to mange their own bodily functions yet.

Classic use of meaningless symbolism, you think they could come up with a better idea than a safety pin. Like Benjamin says, they're for infants but seamstresses and Johnny Rotten are also commonly associated with safety pins.

And this "are you wearing a safety pin to show you are not a hate monger?" statement smacks of moral superiority and arrogance, you are putting what you think is a modern-day equivalent of a yellow star on YOURSELF in order to play the poor, oppressed victim again.

"So you are afraid of showing you do not hate people. Interesting. " The only thing interesting is how you can twist anything to your benefit, bet you could do ten railroad ties welded together with your eyes closed.

I don't have to wear a pin, anyone that knows me knows I do not hate people and if I have to prove it to the average person on the street this is a poor excuse for a nation.
