WASHINGTON (AP) — The Latest on Sen. Al Franken and sexual misconduct allegations (all times local):

1:50 p.m.

A top Senate Democrat says he expects Sen. Al Franken to resign Thursday over allegations of sexual misconduct. Another woman has come forward with accusations against the Minnesota Democrat of sexual misconduct.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon said: “I expect that Senator Franken will announce his resignation tomorrow.” Wyden tweeted that “It is the right thing to do given this series of serious allegations.”

More than a dozen Senate Democrats, led by female lawmakers, have called on Franken to step aside. The nearly simultaneous clamor for the two-term senator to quit comes a day after Michigan Rep. John Conyers, another Democrat, announced his resignation.

Franken’s office said in a brief statement that he will have an announcement on Thursday, details to come.

They asked Franken to resign because his seat will go to democrat.

Bob Menendez, who used money he got from bribes to buy underage hookers will not be forced to resign because a republican governor would take his place.

Remember this when the libs start with the trump comparisons.

Al Franken has given his resignation - but did not say when it would be effective.
IMHO - Al wants to make sure he is there to vote against some important legislation.

In 1974 - Richard Nixon - resigned as POTUS - it became effective approximately 16 hours later.

See the difference?

Perhaps Franken is waiting to see if Roy Moore gets elected. Then he can say that if the Senate is going to allow Moore to serve, why not himself? Then the Democrats can create some astroturf campaign for Franken, starting in Minnesota, about how the Dems need Franken to counterbalance Roy Moore. Then, two days after the Alabama election Franken can go on the Senate floor and rescind his resignation, claiming a groundswell of support.

I think you may be onto something. I suppose the difference is - as yet - Moore has admitted nothing

But no effective date, in fact "Al Franken says he'll resign from Senate 'in the coming weeks" (Bold - my emphasis)
Minnesota governor Mark Dayton isn't saying who the replacement will be. From today's paper:

Gov. Mark Dayton delayed naming a new U.S. senator for Minnesota on Friday, as attention focused on the DFLer said to be his likeliest choice: Lt. Gov. Tina Smith.

Dayton said Friday morning that he would name a replacement for Sen. Al Franken “in a couple days,” declining to be more specific, and not mentioning any names.

Hmmm.... Waiting to see the outcome of the Alabama special election?

The people of Minnesota are having their voices removed. He may have just squeaked by in his first election but he handily won his second term. Now someone who received zero votes will represent them.

Democratic Minnesota Sen. Al Franken has yet to announce when he’s actually going to leave office.

Franken announced last Thursday that he would be resigning “in the coming weeks” after eight different women accused him of groping or forcibly kissing them. “The timing of Franken’s resignation remains unclear, as is his motive in delaying it,” New York Magazine’s Ed Kilgore noted at the time.

Franken has yet to offer any more specificity about when he’s going to follow through in resigning.

Franken’s office did not return multiple requests for comment on the subject.
